I love when it rains. I love watching the rain create rivers on surfaces.
The smell of the air after a fresh rainfall. The pitter-patter on roofs. Jumping over (or in) puddles. How the world seems cleaner and brighter right after a rainstorm. Ironically, I hate humid, muggy days, but when the first rain drop starts to fall, I am ecstatic with glee.
A lot of people love the rain as much as I do, maybe more. Just as many though, I'm sure, think that I am crazy to love the weather that makes people stay indoors, that ruins outdoor games and makes driving more dangerous. I love the rain simply because it's rain, but also because when I was younger and being driven to practice or an appointment or anywhere, on rainy or cloudy days, my dad would play "Mr. Blue Skies".
He told us (my brother, sister, and I) that the more we sang, the more it would work, so we would sing and sing and sing to this song. As we sang, we would look for patches of blue skies, and they would fortify our belief that the song worked. I looked forward to rainy days and the inevitable "jam session" that came from them.
Another reason I love rainy days is that I always wanted to play some sport that would allow me to run in the rain. I couldn't just run in the rain because: 1. running bores me and 2. I love the idea of racing down the field soaking wet during practice or a game. Sadly, the outdoor sport I chose to play (tennis) could not be played while it rained.
Trust me though, I tried.
Rain fills me with such hope. Rainy days are like new beginnings.
They wash the world clean, leaving it unblemished. The trees and grass are a more vibrant green after it rains and the whole world is pure and good. Rain gives me hope that, with just a little bit of water, something can become completely new. To quote Hillary Duff, "Let the rain fall down, And wake my dreams. Let it wash away My sanity. 'Cause I wanna feel the thunder, I want to scream. Let the rain fall down."
