Here's to rising above challenges

Quotes for Overcoming

Every day is not always spectacular. But each day presents us the opportunity to continue to accomplish what we have set out in our heads to do. Although sometimes it may seem hard to keep going, it is important to remember to do so and work to overcome and triumph over the challenges we face. Here are six quotes that I feel embody the idea of overcoming as well as becoming a better, more strong person in doing so.

"Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat"

-F Scott Fitzgerald

One of the easiest mistakes to make is assuming that your one loss or fail is an indication that you should quit. But in order to become stronger, what we really should do is learn from that defeat. This brings us to the next quote.

"Sometimes you win. Sometimes you learn."

-John Maxwell

Instead when we encounter defeat, we should not consider it a loss. Rather we should determine what we can learn from it.

""Take a limitation and turn it into an opportunity. Take an opportunity and turn it into an adventure by dreaming BIG!"

- Jo Franz

The limitations you face can serve as an opportunity to prove your true inner-strength to keep working. When you keep-working towards achievement, you can then envision yourself accomplishing things you never had thought of before.

"If you expect life to be easy, challenges will seem difficult. If you accept that challenges may occur, life will be easier."

-― Rob Liano

This one sort of speaks for itself, challenges are a part of life, and in remembering so persevering can be made easier

"The tests we face in life's journey are not to reveal our weaknesses but to help us discover our inner strengths. We can only know how strong we are when we strive and thrive beyond the challenges we face."

- Kemi Sogunle

What I like about this quote is how it combines ideas of facing hardship and what comes after hardship as well as acknowledging that each and everyone of us will indeed face these challenges in our own lives.

"Failure is an important part of your growth and developing resilience. Don't be afraid to fail."

-Michelle Obama

This is the quote I am deciding to end on because it focuses on resilience which is one of my goals for 2019. I am striving to be a more resilient person, one who continues to work just as hard despite the limits and obstacles placed in front of me currently. So here's to rising above challenges and becoming a better, stronger you.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
