With finals quickly approaching, it hard to believe how stressed out some students get, including myself. Through tips from other students and professors, I’ve compiled a list of things that will help you get through college’s version of “hell week”
1. Relax
Of course, there is tension running high. You are nervous about how you’re going to do, if you’re going to forget the information, or whether something you didn’t study is going to be on the exam. Take a deep breathe and try to calm yourself. It helps to keep cold water by your side and a small snack. If it helps, listen to relaxing music like classical or Indie Rock

2. Study Group
If you are studying for something where you know some people in the class, suggest creating a study group. If you have others, there are somethings you may know that they may not. In addition, your peers may have a better way of remembering some of the material. Finally, with others around there are more people to encourage you to do well. It’s a “we’re all in this together” mindset
3. Take small breaks
Everyone once in awhile, take a 10 to 20 minute break. Grab a snack, check your phone, or put on the TV. It even helps to listen to some music and lay down a little bit. If you just stare at your computer or a study guide for too long you run the risk of getting a head ache or burning it. If you take breaks, you allow your mind to relax a little bit.
4. Get at least 6 hours of sleep
Although you may feel the need to study until endless hours of the night, get some sleep. An average of 6 hours is necessary to replenish all that brainpower that you’ve been working so hard to use. Get a good sleep in when you wake up in the morning you’re amped and ready to go.
5. Keep your phone out of reach
Obviously phones are a distraction, not just during finals but all the time. Try to put your phone in your bag or give it to a friend to hold. Even better, if you’re going to the library, leave your phone in your room. The second that you forget it’s there is just one less thing that you’ll have to worry about.
I hope that these quick tips help! Good luck to everyone on your finals!
