20 Things To Say To A Soon-To-Be College Grad Other Than 'So, You Have A Job Lined Up Yet?'

In This Article:

I am about to graduate at the end of this semester, which is rapidly approaching. The last semester of college is stressful enough without family members and others constantly asking what you have planned after graduation. Well currently, I am just trying to survive this semester, especially with finals week basically here.

I am tired of being asked about my future plans, if I have any jobs lined up, and what my career path is. I haven't even graduated yet. I don't even have my degree to actively pursue anything, which is a separate problem. Yes, I know what I would love to do and have goals, but it's hard to know what exactly is going to happen once I graduate.

Not to mention, I am graduating a semester early, I didn't plan on this and wasn't prepared. It has made this semester much harder to stay on top of my class work while working on my resume, applying to jobs, and deciding where I would like to move. It's a lot, a lot for someone who hasn't even made it to graduation.

It's surprising how many people don't ask how you are currently doing and how you are doing in your last semester. I haven't made it to graduation yet.

Here are some basic questions and statements I would rather be asked about in my final semester of school, instead of people only focusing on after graduation.

“How is your last semester?”

“How are your classes?”

“Are you enjoying your last semester/classes?”

“What classes are you taking? Any fun or interesting ones?”

“What’s been your favorite class? Worst?”

“Is it stressful right now? Are you doing okay?”

“How’s life?”

“Wow, that’s so exciting!”

“Good luck!”

“Congratulations on your accomplishments so far.”

“I hope school is treating you well.”

“Do you need anything? Or help with anything at the moment?”

“Are you happy or sad about being done with college?”

“Feel free to call me if you need anything.”

“How’s your roommates? How much are you going to miss them?”

“Do you feel like it’s almost over/ Are you happy to be almost done?”

“You must be proud of yourself.”

“Do you feel burnt out yet?”

"Aren't you exhausted?"

“Want to go out for dinner?”

Literally, ask me anything except about graduating and the future. The best thing you can ask me is something totally unrelated to school.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
