It's no secret that VS is losing customers to companies like Rihanna's Savage X Fenty brand or Arie. Come on, VS, women are getting tired of angels that all look alike. Self-love is in season, and women today are favoring more humble companies to buy their lingerie from. I would like to see a more inclusive runway if they ever decide to bring it back, but I still hate to see the fashion show discontinuing. The extravagant and shiny outfits will be missed!
Arie has pledged not to photoshop their advertisements and has seen a positive response from women everywhere. Meanwhile, Victoria's Secret's sales have declined over the past year and the fashion show experienced low ratings last year. VS models set unrealistic expectations, as some of the models go on extreme exercise routines and diets. Some angels also have plastic surgery, lip injections and botox. As if we need little girls thinking they need surgeries to be pretty, I think not.
Victoria Secret is changing their marketing approach, in a plan that includes canceling their annual fashion show. VS has been criticized in the past for their models displaying a lack of diversity and unrealistic standards for women, and they are now focusing on more body-positive objectives. VS doesn't have the best track record when it comes to diversity. Their former Chief Marketing Officer of VS refused to hire transgender and plus-sized models as VS angels. I'm sorry, but the angels just don't represent all women equally. They need to start following the lead of their competitors and stand up for real women by not including photoshopped enhancements into their posts and ads. VS, take some notes from Arie and Savage X Fenty, diversity and inclusion are key to a woman's heart.
I love watching the extravagant fashion show and I definitely will miss the giant wings and beautiful lingerie. The show featured so many iconic looks. The show will be missed, but I look forward to VS promoting diversity and body positivity!
