As technology advances and television and movies overcome our communities, it seems as if books have been put on the back burners. But I think it's because people may not realize all that the classic novel can hold.

As I open a book I prepare myself to be thrown into a place where my worries disappear, and I connect with characters that will be with me for a lifetime.

From reading sci-fi to historical non-fiction, you are thrown into a world completely unlike your own and half of what you read is up for interpretation.

People may argue that you can escape to non-worrisome places while watching a movie or playing angry birds. What people don't realize that in books you are thrown into the action instead of simply being a viewer of the action.

Reading can send you into a place where monsters are real but so is love at first sight. Where world war one was caused by werewolves and witches fighting rather than the true ugliness of war.

Reading provides worlds where we find truth, we find death, and we find sadness— but in the writing, you find happiness and a second life.

Reading brings hope and forgiveness in places you never thought could be found. When the text comes to life around you not only do the characters find resolution but the reader can too.

Connection to a character can bring clarity to issues you are wishing to fix in your life, you can find clarity in the alternate universe you are reading from.

So I vote to put Netflix and the Kim K games on hold and pick up any book that you can find. Throw yourself into a world where anything is possible and everything will happen.
