First, it was yoga pants, and then it was the mom bun. Now, like a campus-wide spread of the stomach flu, the half-bun has taken Purdue’s campus by storm. Girls (and occasionally gentlemen with lengthy locks) have integrated the new lazy-do, and it appears as if overnight it has become a staple go-to for any college student.
“[I’m crazy about the half-bun because] it shows off my semi-lazy, cute, personality,” junior Danielle Paglia said. “And my little and I look adorable together when we both wear them...duh.”
It is the solution to what all college girls have struggled with for far too long: how to look cute, but also be lazy. It’s what we wear when our luscious long locks need to shine but our body didn’t wake up early enough before classes to wash the hairspray out. It’s what we need when our hair just isn’t parting. If I want to #LongHairDontCare and honor the words by truly not caring about the top half of my head, I call upon my trusty half-bun to rock me through the day.
“I do [the half-bun] because I have so much hair and when it is hot, and I want to wear my hair down, it's easier to manage and it's cooler,” junior Brittney Epley said. “Plus, it's darn right cute."
As prominent as it is for the average lazy girl, it’s not just a staple for having no time to do your hair in the morning. The half-bun has been popping up in high fashion. This unique statement is turning the last-minute to the chic and leaving those who aren’t jumping on the train behind.
Celebrities are spotted out in public with the trending half-bun.
When you look at it full circle, there's no need to hate the half-bun. In fact, it's near impossible for all the haters to not secretly love it. It solves every issue known to those with at least shoulder-length hair. I am urging you now; it's time to rise your hair up from above your ears and topknot that do.
