How Having A Puppy Prepares You For Parenthood

I’m not saying having a puppy is equivalent to having a baby, but it definitely preps you for one.

You have to feed them

I’m not sure about all pups but I know when mine is hungry, he gets whiny, fussy, and can be a little terror. I call this being hangry (hungry and angry), which I’m sure toddlers/babies get this way, too. Hell, I’m 25 and you don’t get in my way when I’m hangry. Regardless, you have to make sure they’re fed and know how they act when they are hungry.

You have to keep an eye on them

Kids make messes; so do puppies. Babies like to rip up paper or draw on the couch or walls. Puppies like to chew through your shoes or eat your underwear. Babies also need to learn not to touch hot items like the oven; your puppy needs to learn not to jump off the bed into a wall for a toy or fly down the stairs. You need to make sure you’re keeping a close eye on these little creatures so that they’re safe.

You have to clean up their stuff

Now changing a diaper is definitely different than picking up dog poop, but you’re there through it all. Whether it’s a quick, clean job, or a gross one, you’re there for your puppy (baby) every step of the way.

You have to bathe them

I’m not sure what bathing a small child is like, but I’m assuming some like it and some hate it. This can be the same way with puppies. My puppy HATES bath time. We have to feed him endless treats and continuously assure him it’s okay in order to give him a bath. I’ve seen videos where other dogs take full advantage of a rub down and water. I’m sure some babies cry and try to crawl away, where others love it and relish in it!

They can’t express how they feel to you – it’s a guessing game

Your pup is whining and barking (babies whine and cry), he’s chewing things (babies throw tantrums), he’s running around like a crazy dog (babies are crawling everywhere), he doesn’t want you petting him or even near him (the baby doesn’t want to be held, but it doesn’t want to be put down either). Either way, you don’t know what they want but you know they’re not happy, so the guessing game begins.

All in all, both are absolutely wonderful to have in your life. Babies are the biggest joy, puppies make your heart swell. Hell, just have one of each and relish in the crazy awesomeness that is your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
