Anybody who knows me will also know that I fawn over dogs. Anybody walking their dog on campus, I ask if I can say hi, not to the human, but to the animal. Growing up, my family had a black lab named Salty, with thick, wavy fur and a big, blocky head. He was healthy and happy and we took wonderful care of him, but he couldn’t live forever. At 12 years old, he died just over two years ago, and it was one of the saddest times of my life.
Over his life, Salty taught me something: dogs make me genuinely happy. Nothing bad in the world can touch me when I’m cuddling or petting a dog, and I think these best friends are one of God’s greatest gifts to mankind. So if I see one when I’m out and about, of course I’m going to go and say hi.
Now my parents are looking at puppy breeders again, which means that I have dogs on the brain almost all the time, particularly puppies. (Which really isn’t such a bad thing.) If you doubt me, consider this: there is an app, taking up valuable space on my phone, called the Daily Puppy, and it features a new puppy every day, complete with pictures and a short bio written by the dog’s owners. I use this app every day.
Without any further ado, in honor of Salty, here are 12 pictures of puppies that have brightened my days until I have one of my own to cuddle.
