Psycho Cupcakes: 13 To-Die-For Treats

One of my favorite guilty pleasures after a hard day at work is stopping at local bakeries to buy a tasty treat or two. There's just something about a cupcake that lifts the spirit. I'm pretty sure that whatever internal switchboard controls my cravings has a pastry-shaped hole that other snacks can't quite fill, and I'm okay with that.

Last year, in the spring of 2015, a friend and I happened to stumble upon a very unique bakery in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. It was a small shop, but the "Psycho Cupcakes" logo outside was enough to draw us in for a look. Little did we realize that we were stepping into a realm where a cupcake was more than just a cupcake. It was an amazing baked-from-scratch work of art with a delightful sense of humor in its design.

Imagine discovering a treat-stop so delicious and unique, and on the way home, too! And then imagine how, just months later, we pulled up one day to find that the shop had disappeared. Sadly, we had discovered Psycho Cupcakes just before a rise in rent caused the young business to close it's storefront. I began following them on Facebook in hopes that someday, there might be a chance that I could savor another vanilla raspberry cupcake or just one more piece of Death By Chocolate cake...

And then, on August 9, 2016, my stalking finally payed off - Nicole Osif (pastry chef and owner) launched the Psycho Cupcakes Storefront Fund on Kickstarter! I was beyond thrilled! Knowing that Kickstarter projects are time sensitive, I wanted to help in any way that I could to put the word out about Psycho Cupcakes.

So, feast your eyes, my friends, on a baker's dozen of creations worth going crazy for!

1. 40 Whacks Cupcakes

Lizzie Borden took an axe... but I'll just have another of these fantastic raspberry-filled vanilla cupcakes topped with a tiny, edible axe and raspberry drizzle.

2. Gingerdead Men

Finally, a gingerbread snack I don't have to try to outrun!

3. Unicorn Farts

This bite-sized little goodie is actually made of meringue, but I believe in the authenticity.

4. Cake Truffles

I mean, come on! Who doesn't love truffles? (Also available in 40 Whacks!)

5. Rest In Peanut Butter (RIPB) Cupcakes

Chocolate and peanut butter: going great together, even from beyond the grave!

6. Death By Chocolate Cake

And speaking of death, I'm dying for another slice of this cake. With this much chocolate, I think I may die happy.

7. Flytrap Cupcakes

If you're in the mood for caramel, these cupcakes should more than satisfy your cravings. Imagine a chocolate or vanilla treat that's not only filled with homemade caramel, but also dipped in caramel, topped with vanilla buttercream, and then finished with a pool of even more caramel! Sweet!

8. Ch-ch-cherry Bombs

I wonder how many I can eat before I explode...

9. Brownie Recluse Spiders

While the bite of a brown recluse is deadly, I'm pretty sure that a bite of a Brownie Recluse is just heavenly!

10. Red Velvet Cupcakes

This red velvet treat is certainly a looker!

11. Mermaid Cupcakes

But the fun doesn't stop there! Let Psycho Cupcakes bake the most amazing creations for your special event. Just look at the care and detail put into every one of these cupcakes!

12. Cowboy Cake

And when it comes to birthdays, who wouldn't want an amazing, customized cake? It's almost too pretty to eat!

13. The Peacock

This elegant peacock themed cake-and-cupcakes combo is certainly a showstopper. With creativity running this deep, the possibilities are almost limitless!

So, if you're as PSYCHO as I am for Psycho Cupcakes, please consider supporting the Kickstarter. Get the word out! Tell your friends! Let's put Psycho Cupcakes back on the map with a shiny new storefront.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
