I think it is safe to say that growing up as the youngest sibling has more advantages than being the oldest sibling. There is no doubt that some parts of life have been made easier for me because my sister had to go through them before I did; all I had to do was follow her lead. Now that we are older, it is a very different story. Yes, I can just call her and ask 20 questions about how to pay a parking ticket or if I can borrow her shirt, but we don't live close enough now for me to learn without having to ask questions. Now, I have to take what I learned from her and try my best to figure out life on my own from here. If you're anything like me, you can relate to the pros and cons of being the youngest.
Pros:
If you have the same teachers in high school and/or college like my sister and I did, your older siblings set the reputation for how much those teachers like you too, which could also be a con.
-Raid their closet. All. The. Time.
-If they fail at something, you know not to do what they did.
-Your parents were and are less strict toward you because they already let all their parenting out on your older siblings first.
-Let's face it, your older siblings are older and wiser so they give the best and most realistic advice. Listen to them! They know what they're talking about.
Cons:
-You freak out when your older siblings aren't around because they taught you how to function and not go insane.
-If you're an annoying younger sibling, like I was, your older sibling will find a way to get back at you.
-Eventually, you mature on your own and surprise your older siblings when you finally reunite and they realize that you can deal with whatever life brings.
By the lack of cons, it is obvious that being the younger sibling is awesome, especially if your older siblings are similar to mine. Shoutout to the older siblings for paving the way for us youngins! We love you even if we rarely say it.
P.S. Thanks Becca Robbins, you rock as a sista!
