Pro:
- Money: No matter what you make, money is money. And when it comes to next semester and you still have some cash left for that Chick Fil A run, you can thank your summer job.
- Never bored: While you can get bored at work, you can guarantee that you are going to use your time when you aren’t working a lot more carefully than if you had unlimited time.
- Learning new things: In every job there is a chance to learn. It sounds cliché, but is very true. You don’t know how to do every task perfectly, and most of the time you’ll learn totally new things or gain pretty useful skills to use in other ways or talk about on your resume.
- Resume: You can happily write on your resume that you did work for a whole summer. Look at you, you go-getter.
Con:
- You’re literally always tired: If you’re like me, I work a full 40 hours and come home everyday exhausted and wake up exhausted. And even if you work less than that, working is tiring.
- You can’t do normal summer things: I have wanted to have a relaxing pool day for months now. It kept me going during the long days that turned into nights during finals week and the essay after essay I was writing. Working full time means no pool time for me, and even if I have a day off, refer to number one.
- No time for friends: When you work full time or even a lot during a week, it gets hard to spend time with your friends, especially if they are also working. Even spending time with my roommates gets hard because we all work different shifts and are basically only at the apartment at the same time when one of us is asleep.
