Ah yes, good old summer jobs. Most everybody has had one at one point or another. Whether it's an internship, a small part-time job, or a full-time job, there are definitely certain perks and downfalls of working in the summer time.
Obviously the biggest pro of working during the summer time is having extra money to put in the bank. Whether you're saving for your future or you're bolstering your checking account to drop so you can drop $100 on new clothes, everybody can agree that making money is pretty fantastic.
A pro I've found while working a full-time summer job is the sense of productivity I feel by the end of the day. Let's be honest, if you had actually had the choice to sleep until noon and be lazy all day, you'd probably take it (I know I definitely have in past summers). However, being forced to get out of the house every day and actually do something to better society will ultimately make you feel better at the end of the day.
Having a summer job also helps you adhere to a schedule. It gives structure to your days and could help you stick with whatever schedule you had during college.
One of the biggest cons I have found while working this summer is feeling perpetually tired. This might not apply to everyone, but sometimes working a summer job requires you to get up early, like really early. If you're not a morning person and find yourself waking up at 5:30 in the morning, you're going to have a bad time.
Another con of working during the summer is missing out on some of the things you want to do, such as not being able to go out with your friends from back home, not having time to work on the projects you want, or even just missing out on just being lazy. You have to come to term with the fact that your work schedule doesn't revolve around you, as hard as that may be sometimes.
Also, it can feel like you're running out of time to act like a kid. You won't get summers off forever and it can be disheartening to think that soon you'll be out of college and you'll have a full-time job year-round.
All in all, I'm glad I have my summer job even if it comes with some downfalls.
