Pros And Cons Of Coming Back To School From Break

August is finally here and upperclassmen are starting to return to campus. Some, into their first apartments or houses, preparing for another semester of classes. There have already been a couple of social gatherings, a few parties, and everyone is either catching up with old friends or making new ones. I’ve been dying to come back to school, however there are a few things I’ll definitely miss, and can’t replicate from home. I thought of a few pros and cons to coming home from break.

Cons:

1. Buying your own groceries.

At home I didn’t have to worry about whether I’d have food in my fridge or not, because I knew mom and dad always had it covered. Now it’s back to buying what I can afford, and although I have a meal plan, that doesn’t help me much health wise. There are healthy options as well, but not as many as there are unhealthy. It’s not easy to keep up buying healthy foods and it’s just, unfortunately, cheaper to buy unhealthy food. So I will miss the seemingly unlimited access to fruits and veggies at home.

2. Driving

Some people do have cars either already at campus or will have one to bring, but for most of us that don’t we will be returning to walking everywhere. It’s back to figuring out other forms of transportation, or just start using an Uber. I’m going to miss cruising, blasting the radio, and singing my heart out without a worry.

3. Friends

First part of this is leaving your friends again back home. It was so much fun going back and hanging out just like old times. You guys caught up, filled each other in on all the shenanigans you got into during the school year, made some more memories and now you have to get back to school. If you moved back to school a bit earlier than most of your other school friends, then it is also is a bit lonely. Especially, if you’re also the first one out of your roommates to move into the new place.

Pros:

1. Being the first on in the apartment

I know I placed this as a con before, but it’s also a pro. I had a clear space to move into. I didn’t have to worry about trying to move in at the same time as my other roommates. Also being in here alone, I don’t have to share anything, nor worry about anyone but myself. I don’t have to share the bathroom, the kitchen, fridge space, and the washing machine.

2. FREEDOM

Being home for a visit is fine, but after a while you start to remember why you were so ready to leave for college in the first place. You love them, but when you under their roof you still have to live by their rules no matter how old you are. Which means you go back to having to ask to do things, and you might get a no, which if you’ve been away from home you’ve become accustomed to just doing whatever. So coming back to coming home at 3 AM, knowing you won’t be questioned about it, is very much a welcomed thing.

Even though there may be one more con than there are pros, personally I think freedom outweighs all of my cons, at least for now. Let’s see how I’m feeling after the hunger sets in, but for now I’m ace.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
