The Pros and Cons of Being An Only Child

One may be known as the loneliest number, but being the only child does have (some) perks.

The Pros and Cons of Being An Only Child

Pro: You never had to share your bedroom or bathroom with anyone else.

Community bathrooms and living in a dorm with a roommate in college was a very interesting experience for you...

Con: You have MAJOR issues with sharing.

From food, to clothes, and everything in-between, sharing is just not a word in your vocabulary.

Pro: You have successfully learned how to entertain yourself and keep yourself busy, no matter the circumstances.

Taking ordinary everyday objects and turning them into a fun pastime is definitely a skill you possess.

Con: Your parents over think every single decision they make when it comes to you, because they only have one shot to get it right.

Flattering, yes. Annoying? Insanely.

Pro: You love your alone time and personal space, because you grew up knowing nothing different.

And other people think you're weird for it, but they just wouldn't understand.

Con: You always have to put up with "spoiled only child" stereotype.

NOT EVERY ONLY CHILD IS THE SAME!

Pro: … although you usually do get everything you want, all the time.

You don't have any siblings who would get jealous, so why not play it to your advantage a little bit?

Con: No matter what, EVERYTHING that goes wrong immediately ends up being your fault just because your parents say so.

You just have to accept it, because you have no one else to blame it on or to back you up.

Pro: Your best friends mean more to you than normal, because you treat them like they are a part of your own family.

Your parents seem to consider them their own children, too.

Con: You spend an unhealthy amount of your childhood hanging out with adults.

You most likely were a little awkward around other kids at first, and have always been told you were mature for your age.

Pro: You always got to bring a friend on family vacations when you were little, otherwise you would have had no one to hang out with.

Being the ultimate third wheel to your parents got very old (and awkward) very quickly, and playing on the beach really isn't as fun as it sounds when you're alone.

Con: You are always going to be jealous of other people who have siblings.

The constant questions for those with siblings will never stop, because you must live vicariously through them.

Pro: Your entire house is covered head to toe in pictures of you.

Sure, they're awkward solo pictures, but they're pictures of you nonetheless!

Con: There is extra pressure from your parents when it comes to just about everything.

The future of your family is basically just relying on you, and solely you. So really no pressure at all! Don't sweat it!

Pro: You will always be the favorite child, no questions asked.

You may be the only child, but you are the undeniably the *perfect* child.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
