When you leave for college, you will no longer have just one home. You're probably moving every school year, on or off-campus, and living with a group of different people at each place. Being at home may feel not feel as home-y to you now, or it'll be like you never left, so here are some pros and cons you may experience when visiting home.
1. You will have to follow rules again.
You've become so used to being an adult and not listening to anyone, but when you're home you're a child again and rules apply to you. These rules most likely include following a curfew, picking up after yourself (as in don't leave your clothes lying around), and not being mean to your siblings.
2. You won't have to pay for your own groceries.
Honestly, a fully stocked fridge and pantry is a great sight. And besides, you're too lazy to go out and get your own food and you're too broke to get everything you want, so save yourself some time and money.
3. You'll be eating a lot healthier than when you're on your own.
You'll be consuming less fast food, less frozen and microwaveable meals, less ramen, and less alcohol while you're at home because your family will be sure to fatten you up and feed you right.
4. You'll be expected to do more for your family.
You're an adult now, so you can probably drive. You might have to (and you should) help out your family a bit and pick up your little brother from school or take your grandma to see her doctor. If you can, cook a meal for your parents and have it waiting for them when they get home.
5. You get home-cooked meals.
Honestly, what more can a person want than coming home to all of their favorite foods made especially for them. The abundance of leftovers you get to take back to college are even better because that means less spending and less cooking for you.
6. Your room won't feel like your room anymore.
It'll be almost empty and you won't feel like it's yours anymore. Your old room will become a storage space or maybe even a guest room.
7. You'll run into a lot of your old class and school mates.
This will either be really awkward and uncomfortable for both parties or kind of nice to briefly catch up with someone, but you can also avoid seeing anyone you know by staying home (which is the easy way out).
With the pros and cons that come with visiting home, it's always bittersweet leaving, but you can always look forward to your next time home. So while you're at home, enjoy the time (and food) you have before parting ways with your family again.
