When Charles Dickens said, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times”, he might as well have been talking about college because anyone who has ever attended will relate to the quote on a personal level. It’s an experience that you can only understand if you go through it on your own. It’s sadly the only time in your life where it’s acceptable to have three meals a day that consists of grilled cheese. You’ll make some of the best friends you’ve ever had and even better memories. It’s truly an amazing time in your life. But, there’s always bad with the good in all aspects of life- especially college. There are even some things that are both good, and bad at the same time.
1. Teachers not taking attendance
There’s no motivation to go to that 8 AM class because no one will know that you only went twice the entire semester. (It only becomes apparent when you completely bomb the final exam)
2. No parents
There’s no one forcing you to clean your room or anyone worrying sick when you stumble in at 4 AM... but there’s also no one there for you every second of every day because sometimes a phone call just isn’t enough.
3. Being Friends with Upperclassmen
They're older and more experienced so they'll show you around campus and teach you all the drinking games, but then one day they'll graduate and leave you behind to fend for yourself.
4. Parties
Almost guaranteed to have a great time, until the next morning….
5. Unlimited Dining Hall Swipes
So you'll never run out which is super cool, but you'll become too familiar with the freshman fifteen which is super not.All in all, going to college is both a pro and a con in and of itself. But I wouldn't trade the experience for the world. Plus, the pros (usually) outweigh the cons.
