Pros And Cons Of Having A Summer Birthday

Out of all the days on the calendar, there is one date in particular that stands out the most. In fact, you’ll consider it to be the most important holiday of the year. Is it Halloween? Is it Valentine’s Day? No, it’s even better than that. It’s your birthday.

Birthdays are the best, and there’s really no other way of saying it. You look forward to your birthday all year long because it’s an entire day of celebrating you. I mean let’s be honest, it’s the only day out of the year when you get to be totally selfish and others just have to deal with it because you know why? It’s YOUR day! With that being said, it’s obvious that properly celebrating your delivery to the world is crucial. You’ll want to be surrounded by the people you love while doing the things you love.

Yet sometimes the timing of your birthday can be difficult. I’m a summer baby, and I’ve found that while having a birthday in the summer has many pros, there are also many cons.

Pros:

1. No school

Obviously this is a huge plus because you don’t have to worry about sitting in class, taking a test, or writing a paper on your birthday. As amusing as sitting in a lecture hall sounds, having a summer birthday allows you to be a bit more stress free.

2. More sun

The weather is always brighter, happier, and hotter during the summer. Having a summer birthday means you can take advantage of the sun and spend your birthday doing outdoor activities.

3. Late nights

Where I’m from, a lot of local clubs, bars, and other hot-spots stay open later than usual for summer hours. Therefore, having a summer birthday allows for you to continue your party later than expected.

4. Less national holidays

Besides the Fourth of July, there aren’t many other national holidays that occur during the summer time. This means that you don’t have to share your day and the celebration can truly be just about you.

Cons:

1. People are away

Unfortunately, sometimes the people we want to celebrate with are not always home. People love to travel during the summer, and I totally understand, but it definitely feels disappointing to hear that some of your favorite people aren’t around to celebrate with you.

2. Places get crowded

Like I said, people love to travel during the summer and that means they may even be traveling to your area. Some of your favorite places might become overcrowded with tourists, making you feel extra crammed in and uncomfortable.

3. Running into old friends who you didn’t invite to the celebration

If you’re not traveling during the summer, odds are you’re staying at home and there’s nothing wrong with that. However, many of your old friends who you’ve drifted with from high school are back in your hometown as well. While out at your birthday celebration, wherever that may be, there’s a chance your old friend Becky might walk in and question why she wasn’t invited. You’re then forced to have an awkward reunion in front of everyone else.

4. Fewer Facebook posts

This sounds so ridiculous but some people actually really do care about how many "Happy Birthday" wall posts they get on Facebook. While I personally don’t care about how many posts I get, I’ve found that I don’t receive too many because most people are out traveling or doing some sort of summer activity.

In the end just make sure that YOU are happy on your birthday. Also, happy birthday to all my fellow summer babies out there.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
