I have been an employee of the Manhattan College Fitness Center for almost a year now, and it is ridiculous how some individuals act within and treat the facility. It does not matter if it is your first time at the gym or hundredth time at the gym, it is important to be aware of proper gym etiquette. It is important to be aware of universal gym etiquette so you do not piss anyone off any employees or the people around you. The gym is a shared space and it is important to remember that.
1. Clean your machine after using it.
Not cleaning your machine after using it is disgusting.
2. Re-rack your weights.
Put your weights in the proper spot so they can be easily accessed to others.
3. Do not slam weights.
There is just no need, just lightly place them on the ground.
4. Do not leave empty water bottles / garbage around.
Simply walk to the trash can and dispose your garbage.
5. No excess yelling.
No workout is so intense that you need to scream.
6. Use headphones.
Just because you like your music, does not mean everyone else does
7. Deodorant.
It is a wonderful item, please use it.
8. Give individuals personal space.
Do not invade anyone's personal bubble, either find a different place to work out or wait for the space to open up.
9. Don't be a "gym intimidator."
You do not own the gym.
10. Wear appropriate clothing.
Please do not wear crop tops or ridiculous cut outs (the types of cut offs that are barely a shirt).
11. Excessive staring.
Glancing at an attractive individual is fine, but be polite and do not stare!
