Senior year of high school is the year everybody loves.

Everyone is looking forward to attending their dream college. The first year in college can change plenty of students for the better or worse, due to the fact that sometimes you do not know what you're going to come across in college. There are amazing things that happen -- you find your future calling and best friends, among other amazing things.

In your first year of college, you realize professors are way different than your teachers in high school. Sometimes, professors can be the best people you have ever met in the university. Other times, you feel like the professor is out to get you.

Here are just a few things professors do that irritate students the most.

1. Not really care about the students.

It's sad to see that some professors only view students as numbers. In my opinion professors, should strive to get to know their students.

2. Not use blackboard the entire semester.

When professors do not use blackboard, that causes a lot of problems for us students. They won't know their grades, and they have less resources to use for class.

3. Use only Powerpoints the entire semester.

Sometimes it is good for professors to use Powerpoints. It helps students follow along and take notes. Then, you have that professor who reviews 100 slides and goes through them faster than Speedy Gonzales can run.

4. Take months or years to grade assignments.

Not knowing your grade can kill a lot of college students. Simply because they do not know if they're passing or failing. Therefore, they don't know where they can improve in the class.

5. Give a review that's nothing like the test.

Reviews are meant to help students understand what to study for the test. Therefore, if the review is nothing like the test, then they studied for nothing and won't pass.

6. Grade the hardest they possibly can.

Some professors look at every detail in a test. I remember one time my professor would take off 2 points if you misspelled a word. That means if you misspelled 5 words, there would be a whole letter grade taken off! The worst part is that it was a math class.

7. Assign seats to students.

Assigning seats are helpful for professors to keep track of attendance. My best friend was assigned a seat near the back of the classroom. She did not have glasses, therefore she could not see the white board and ended failing the class.

8. Always show up late

My professor almost always shows up to class ten minutes late. He usually sits in the lounge and drinks coffee before heading to class.

9. Talk about themselves and not teach.

It is totally cool for professors to talk about their life to the class. When they do it everyday and decide not to teach, however, that is when it becomes a problem.

10. Assign excessive homework.

Homework is intended to be a review of the material you covered in class. It is not supposed to be excessive amounts of work to keep the student occupied.

11. They belittle you.

I understand professors like to be sarcastic sometimes. Every now and then you have the professor who takes sarcasm to another level.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
