Things You've Probably Said About Your Summer Plans

Summer vacation is here! If you are taking classes over summer, I applaud you for being so proactive about your education and I'll see you at your free time's funeral. If you aren't taking any classes during the summer semester like me, that means three months of doing whatever the heck you want (which usually ends up being a whole bunch of absolutely nothing). However, we always start the summer with a set list of hypothetical "We totally have to do ___!"'s with your friends. To be the totally fun and relatable cool mom, I've decided to make a list of everything that I know a majority of people have said about their plans for this summer.

1. "I'm not going to bed until the sun comes up!"

I don't know what it is about getting the slightest amount of free time, but it always leads to messing up my sleep schedule with hours of internet and television use late into the night.

2. "I have so many shows to catch up on!"

If you don't have much free time during the semester, your list of shows you want to watch tends to get pretty lengthy. So when summer hits, we usually get pretty crazy and end up binge-watching whole show series in a day or two.

3. "I want to fly somewhere fun this summer."

Again, free time means big ideas. Everyone wants to fly somewhere or take a cruise to an exotic location during summer vacation. Where they get all of this money for these extravagant trips, I'm still trying to figure out.

4. "Oh my god, we could totally go on a road trip this summer!"

Personally, I don't see the appeal of sitting in a confined space for hours on end, but everyone else and their mother has "road trip" on their bucket list. They want to see the Rocky Mountains or whatever, I don't know.

5. "They texted me two months ago... I guess I should reply now that I have time."

Someone texts you right before you go into class, you forget to reply after your profesor lets you go, and the next thing you know it's multiple months later and that text from your dear friend is still sitting in your inbox feeling cold and alone. But that's what summer is for! It's for rekindling friendships!

6. "Now that classes are done, I feel like I should let my parents know that I'm alive."

This goes along with the whole friend's-text-in-your-inbox thing, except a little more important because... you know, parents are important and stuff. It's just nice to have a little free time to go back and see your family before returning to madness when fall comes back around.

7. "I need to get a summer job!"

Who doesn't love money? If you're not taking classes over the summer, what other excuse do you have for not working all summer and saving up a little bit of money? (You probably don't have one.)

8. "I'm so ready to party this summer and just let go!"

People get kind of insane when they don't have an 8 a.m. class to go to the next day. All I'm going to say is be careful and make good choices.

9. "Bro, I'm going to get totally ripped this summer."

Listen, more power to you if you go through a huge physical transformation in time for swimsuit season. All I'm saying is while you get all tired and sweaty, I'm chilling at home in bed eating cereal at midnight while I watch "Bob's Burgers."

10. "Treat. Yo. Self."

Last but certainly not least, everyone plans to treat themselves, and rightfully so. You deserve a treat! You deserve to get something you want! You deserve to have a great summer!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
