The 'Pretty Little Liars' Season Finale Was A Pretty Little Letdown

Did these past seven years go to waste?

Pretty Little Liars has been a part of many peoples’ lives since it aired on June 8, 2010. Dedicated fans have watched all of the Liars go through many ups, downs, twists, and turns throughout their years in high school while being blackmailed and stalked by “A.” We stuck with the show after dozens of promises to know who “A” was. We stuck around after years of frustration with the unknowns and plot twists. Quite honestly, this finale was a total letdown for the dedicated fans.

*Warning: Spoilers Ahead*

Don’t get me wrong, I love Pretty Little Liars, but this finale did not do the show and the dedicated fans justice. The end just seemed thrown together haphazardly. I feel like I waited 7 years for nothing almost. I’m sure other dedicated fans feel the same as I do. How is it that the writers chose to wait until the very last episode to reveal so much information in so little time? There were a lot of very long sex and heavy make out scenes that bit into time that could have been spent further developing the last plot lines.

I understand that “AD” is Alex Drake, Spencer’s twin sister, but I wish we got to see more of her and know more of her involvement into the Liar’s lives. I understand that she wanted to switch places with Spencer in order to feel the love that Spencer got to feel through her friendships with her fellow liars, but why didn’t viewers get more flashbacks and more insight on to her feelings?

I want to know more about how she built the tunnel she locked Ezra and Spencer in. I want to know more about how she broke Mary Drake out of prison. I want to know how the Liars figured everything out so quickly.

These girls (and their partners) have been being tormented by unknown people for YEARS and haven’t been able to figure it out, but they want the viewers to believe that they were able to figure out that Spencer had a twin sister who locked Spencer and Ezra in a basement and took her place with about 13 minutes left to the show.

The viewers are supposed to just be okay with the fact that Jenna smelled something off about the person claiming she was Spencer, who then tipped Toby off by telling him that she didn’t think that “Spencer is really Spencer.” Then viewers are expected to believe Toby notices a book Spencer (but actually Alex Drake as Spencer) gave to him had no marking in it--which he knew she had marked in her own copy-- and that’s all the evidence the Liars and their significant others needed to come to the conclusion that Spencer has an evil twin who took Spencer captive. Are you kidding me? Those are the only clues they needed?

The Liars didn’t even look into the Radley footage to see what happened to Ezra and to see if the Spencer look-alike did something to him. Nope. They just listened to Toby explain that there was a book given as a gift and took it as is.

I know that crazy events are a relatively normal part of the Liars lives, but come on… if my friends are acting strangely, my first thoughts aren’t that they are actually a twin and the twin has my friend locked away somewhere and took their place.

Another thing that bothers me about this is that AD was always at least one step ahead of the girls, so why wasn’t AD more concerned with getting found out? I understand that AD was now vulnerable because she was pretending to be Spencer, but I just have so many questions.

This episode could have been spread out over a few more episodes, which would have allowed the full-blown explanations the writers have always given viewers in the past. The ending scene should have been the scene where the liars are standing around in Rosewood hugging goodbye. The bit with Mona was interesting, but could have taken place before the goodbye scene. The scene with the mean teenagers sleeping in the barn (like the opening of the pilot) was just downright cheesy. I know the writers probably wanted the show to come full circle, but I think the hugging goodbye scene would have been sufficient enough.

All the fans wanted was to know who AD was, which we finally learned. We wanted the Liars to be safe and happy. We got that. I guess we can’t complain too much, but I guess I can be a little upset with how quickly everything unfolded. All I really want to know now is: how the hell did the moms get out of the basement?! And why did Alex have to kill Ren?

Overall, I know that the show needed to end and I am satisfied with the outcome of the Liars' lives. It has been a great run and an interesting 7 years. I've been watching since I was a young teenager, and I'm not sure I'll know how to spend my Tuesday nights in the future now that Pretty Little Liars is officially over. The girls did mention that they are up to a reunion, so luckily, PLL fans have that to look forward to in the future.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
