Since 2010, "Pretty Little Liars" has been not only in the hearts of viewers of nearly age group but also the minds of many online theorists. Because the romantic-mystery aired for so long, it kept viewers and bloggers alike guessing the actual identity of the one behind every twisted game and lie, Uber-A. We'd been tricked into thinking it was nearly every character we were introduced to and every romantic interest of our favorite little Liars. Toby, Ezra, Ali, Paige, Maya, and even poor little Wren all were once thought to be the big baddie behind the Liars' suffering. But after 7 long years and hours and hours of waiting, we the viewers were shocked to discover that Uber-A had actually always been...
**SPOILERS AHEAD!**
Spencer's... Twin sister? What?
On one hand, it's kind of genius. There have been subtle hints throughout the series (or at least some have theorized) hinting that there is a hidden twin to one of the liars and after hearing that Mary Drake had two children placed into adoptive services, one could only wonder who Spencer's sibling was. And, despite some disbelief, Troian Bellisario did tell sources that she has been hiding the secret of Uber-A's identity for TWO WHOLE YEARS. This crushed/crushes any thoughts that writers decided on the twin theory at the last minute, Despite the interesting (theorized) clues toward a twin that have been seen since season 1, some fans still weren't impressed. And, unfortunately, I must say I am one of them.
I DO think that the #Twincer theory was amazing and interesting and well played out by the cast as a whole. But.. After 7 years, "The evil twin did it" just doesn't do it for me.
After 7 years of waiting and obsessing over the Liars, the #Twincer ending seems thrown together. I mean, hear me out: These girls couldn't figure out literally anything by themselves for 7 years but they managed to crack that mystery in ONE EPISODE!?
Not only was Spencer's twin not involved in anything for most of the series until the final episode, but the one character we had been led to believe was villainous for the entire series figured out that Spencer had a twin based on PERFUME.
I also think it's hilarious that the Liars finally decided to call the cops in the LAST EPISODE. Like ??? IT'S TOO LATE NOW, BOO BOO.
In conclusion, despite the fact that I was excited that I was correct about the #Twincer theory, I do think it was a lame way to end the show after seven years. After thousands of tears and countless hours spent watching EVERY SINGLE EPISODE, I know I was hoping for more of a surprise. Despite everything, I am proud to have stuck with this show for seven full years and for growing an emotional attachment not only each Liar, but also to the actress who plays her as well. To the actresses, I. Marlene King, and Sara Shepard, thank you for bringing this show to life and for connecting to each and every viewer while simultaneously captivating us with the mystery of the Liars' dirty little secrets. Although I wasn't super excited with the ending of the series, I do plan on rewatching the entire series to look for all of the little Easter Eggs pointing to #Twincer- and maybe that was their goal in the first place.
