“Pretty Little Liars” or “PLL” as the cool kids call it, is sort of, kind of, a complete waste of time, and I know I’m not the first to have said that. I mean, it’s not terrible, and it’s definitely not the worst show on television, but it’s not by any means a great show. You’re probably wondering why I think this, or you’re probably like “duh, Kelsey” or maybe you just simply do not care, and would rather waste your time on a better Buzzfeed article, or something. In any case, here’s why. There is no consistency in the plot lines whatsoever. Clichés form the entire basis of the episodes, and there are more holes in the plot than there are in Swiss cheese. Suddenly, the show brings back a character everyone has completely forgotten about, and there have been so many “As” that I’m wondering how this show is even going to end. It’s like the writers procrastinated, and they’re wondering, “who hasn’t been a suspect yet,” or “who should we kill off next,” or “what sort of strange hashtags should we use in this episode?”
Even though I am aware how vapid the show can be, and even though the show frustrates me to no end – why don’t they just leave these poor girls alone? This series is the definition of a guilty pleasure, and I cannot get enough. I need to know the ending. I’ve waited long enough.
Hear me out. I remember when the show first aired; I was in eighth grade on a class trip to Six Flags. It was an overnight trip, so it was a pretty big deal. I did not watch the show that night, as it conflicted with the season finale of “Glee” (yeah, I had some pretty huge priorities back in the day). Luckily, my mom recorded it, so I was able to watch it when I returned from the middle school shenanigans. Thank God, am I right? I watched the show up until my senior year of high school, but when I came to college I felt like I needed to stop. I thought I was too old for such nonsense, but little did I know I would be sucked back into the drama in a few months. Now I'm a sophomore in college, and I have been waiting for the June premiere since March. I blame my friends for bringing back the addiction, but I also sort of thank them.
So why do I even bother with this show? Well, when you’ve been following a show for so long, it’s kind of hard to give it up. It's so bad, it's good. Plus, the show is classified as a mystery-thriller (according to Wikipedia), which means that there should be a some sort of solution to everything that has happened on the show thus far. Since I am a human, and a teenage girl, that also means I absolutely need to find out what the hell is going to happen. Until I do though, you can find me equally parts pissed off and intrigued on the couch, waiting to finally figure out who in the heck is tormenting these chicks this time, and who they'll ship next.
