Press Home To Open

I basically got a new phone when I downloaded iOS 10.

Press Home To Open

By now, most iPhone users are probably aware of the latest update: iOS 10. I, for one, had quite the struggle when learning how to use my phone. Let's be realistic, downloading a new iPhone update is like getting a new phone -- it's frustrating when you don't know how to use it! These are my thoughts on the iOS 10 update:

I have to press the home button to open?

What is this sorcery? For as long as iPhones have been around, it has always been "slide to unlock." Heck, there are lock screen pictures that are funny because of the "slide to unlock" feature. Now, you simply press the home button, while sliding (as I have done about a thousand times since getting the update) will result in the weather, Siri's app suggestions, and top news stories.

Messages...You've changed.

It took me a while to figure out all the new abilities of Messages (we'll get to that later), but aside from all that, the app itself is set up differently than ever before. Contact pictures are across the top, you have the ability to flip between images and attachments in "Details," and most importantly, you can send balloons and confetti! How cool is that? Seriously, Apple is getting less and less practical and more and more fun.

On that note, emojis are weird.

Is it just me, or do the people emojis look more like actual people? There are female options for the "career" emojis, the bride has curly hair, and they added single-parent families to the lineup -- way to go Apple! That being said, they took away the gun emoji and replaced it with a water gun! Come on Apple, if you're gonna take that away, you might as well take away the bomb, the sword, the knife, the pickax, and the cigarette.

The animated drawings in Messages?

When trying to figure out the fancy new heartbeat and fireball, I accidentally sent about 15 animated drawings to the poor soul whose Message thread I was in. I get that it's fun, and it's effective once you figure out how to only send one at a time, but what's the purpose? Again, less practical, more fun.

So what's your favorite aspect of iOS 10? If there are just too many for you to remember, Apple was kind enough to release a video that shows off all the iPhone's new capabilities. So update your phone, and remember to press home to open!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
