6 Ways To Mentally Prepare Yourself For The New Semester

It's that time of year again, back to school! So how can we get ready for it?

As summer slowly comes to a close, students have to get back into the groove of school. No longer can they work crazy hours, party all night long and take spontaneous trips to other cities.

Okay, so maybe many students will still do those things and much more, but it's that time to really get it together to prepare for the upcoming semester!

Here's a few tips on how to be ready to make the most of Fall 2016!

1. Do not start watching new shows on Netflix.

Finish whatever series you've been binge watching this summer, or even better--only watch one episode at a time until you finish the series. However, resist the temptation to click start from season one on anything! Once you start, you just can't stop.

But have you seen Stranger Things, yet?

Oh and Pokemon is on Netflix too if you want to relive your childhood.

2. Clear out your schedule for the first week of school.

Don't make plans with friends. Don't work overtime and extra days if you can avoid it. Just keep your schedule clear to make time to meet with counselors, stand in those book store lines or to sit in on classes you couldn't register for.

Once you've got your normal routine down for the semester then you can add more to your load to see what you're able to handle. It's better not to get burnt out so early.

3. Wake up earlier/go to bed earlier.

Those late summer nights are the best, but it's time for them to come to an end. Why suffer the first week of school when you can suffer now? Get used to getting into bed before midnight. Go for breakfast in the morning to get your body back on that habit of an early morning commute to school.

Seriously, it sucks when you have to get used to it on the first week of school. Prepare your mind and body now!

4. Eat less junk food.

HA HA HA.

We know that this one might be tough sometimes. Late night Oreos or In n Out will call to us this semester, but getting the proper type of snacks can give you better energy to help you survive these next few months.

You might even feel better at the end of the day.

5. Reuse school supplies.

How many Target runs will it take to get every school supply you need? Often times partially used notebooks can be reused instead of spending more money on a new one. More money spent means more stress added when looking at your bank account! There are probably even pens hidden in or under your couch. Check your car for highlighters, too.

Don't waste money on things you already have.

6. Plan a last hurrah.

With only so little time until summer ends, think quick about the last party you can host! Whether it's a get together at Dave & Busters or a house party, spending quality time with the people you will have to forget about (yeah right) this semester. You know you're going to be SO busy studying extremely hard for all those exams and NOT procrastinate on anything this time around. Might as well let it all go one last time!

Whatever it is that will help you mentally prepare for the upcoming fall semester, do it now. Study hard and kick those classes in the ass! You deserve that A.

Just don't fall out of sync and give up. You can do it!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
