My entire life, I've loved the company of a book. I immerse myself in the world, the characters and I join them on their adventure. As I've grown older, I've found myself preferring this type of adventure to traveling.

I've never been an outdoorsy type person. Of course, when I was little, I'd spend my days outside with my neighborhood friends. But after a certain age, I found myself staying indoors. I'd curl up with a book and read it cover to cover if time allowed it. I'm not entirely opposed to traveling, however. I, like most people, would love to explore new states and countries. However, I prefer reading.

Reading allows you to go on adventures that you'd never be able to go on in real life. I often see quotes and images like this:

I wonder if the people that say these things have ever picked up a book and truly enjoyed it. Books are entirely different worlds filled with curious things. Things that cannot exist in our world. Someone that reads can travel just as much as one who actually goes places, if not more. The world of literature is infinite and new places are always being created.

I've been called boring, stationary, and told that I am not living to my full potential because I read so much. But I feel the most alive when I'm reading; I feel comfortable and challenged at the same time, and I'm learning new things all the while exploring a new world.

Not only are books dynamic, they are also are knowledge and knowledge is power. Books provide different perspectives and offer information on all sorts of different things, and maybe traveling does too, but it seems more like something you have to search for than something that just comes to you.

One thing in common, however, is that both traveling and reading provide an escape. Those who are not content with their lives often seek a book or a new place to enjoy. I've fallen victim to this more than once, using a new and exciting world in literature to escape things in my life for a short time.

Do not judge someone for how they live. If you travel, I hope you have a blast and never give that up, don't let anyone try to control you. If you read, do not let anyone discourage you or shame you for how you live your life.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
