After the Star Wars franchise was revived in 2015 with “The Force Awakens”, fans were left with many questions regarding both old and new characters. While many fans think that all of their questions will be answered in “The Last Jedi” (coming out on December 15th of this year), I disagree. I think we won’t get everything we're hoping for.

Here are my educated guesses about what we’re going to learn in "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi".

Warning: While I don’t know for sure if these are actual spoilers, you might want to go into the movie absolutely blind (no notions or theories). If so, this is not for you.

Also: This will show that I'm a huge HUGE nerd who knows a lot about Star Wars. Enjoy!

Snoke Who??

I'm gonna go ahead and get this out of the way. I don't think we're going to find out who or what Snoke is in this movie. I think if we get one big reveal it will be the parentage of Rey and this will wait until later. I could be wrong and have it flipped, but I believe we are definitely not getting both answered in this movie.

While many beautiful options have been thrown out there -- Emperor Palpatine, Mace Windu, Jar Jar Binks -- I don’t think we’re going to get a real answer until Episode IX in 2019. We might get a vague answer of some kind in this movie, but I doubt we’ll get anything concrete (and fans will probably leave the theater with the same and maybe even some new Snoke theories).

Our Main Heroine.

I already brought it up, so I guess I gotta commit. I don't know who Rey came from, but I think we're gonna find out.

There are a lot of different speculations with this one, and while I can’t tell you who Rey’s parents are, I can tell you who they aren’t. In an interview following “The Force Awakens”, director and co-writer J.J. Abrahams was asked who Rey’s parents are, and he responded that they were not seen in the movie. This automatically crosses Luke, Han, and Leia off the list. This also means that Rey is not a Skywalker, or at least that she shouldn't be.

Let me say it louder for the people in the back.

According to J.J. Abrahams, the man who co-wrote the script to “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens”, Rey's parents were NOT in "Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens".

Rey. Is. Not. A. Skywalker.

One of the main arguments for Rey being a Skywalker is the fact that Lucasfilm CEO Kathleen Kennedy explained the difference between Star Wars saga films and Star Wars story films. The saga films follow the Skywalker family – on the contrary, story films focus on different aspects of the Star Wars universe – and Rey is the main character in the new saga. This, however, isn’t entirely true. Rey and Kylo Ren are the two main characters of this new saga. They have even been referred to as “almost two halves of the same protagonist” by “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson. The Skywalker that this saga follows is Kylo Ren, or Ben Solo.

There are those of you who believe that Johnson’s quote means that Rey and Kylo are twins that were some way seperated. Some fans love this theory because it mirrors the Star Wars: Legends story Jacen and Jaina Solo, where one of the Solo twins went bad, and it was up to the other to stop him.

There are also some of you that believe Rey is simply the daughter of Han and Leia because she can fly the Falcon, talk to Chewbacca, and she shares a tender, even motherly, hug from Leia after the death of Han Solo. The theory goes that Rey was hidden on Jakku after Kylo turned to the dark side.

Allow me to debunk both of these real quick.

Canonically, Kylo Ren is 10 years older than Rey. In “The Force Awakens” Rey is 19, and Kylo is 29. Obviously, they aren’t twins. Using this same information, let’s talk about how Rey isn’t Han and Leia’s daughter at all, and why that theory is really dumb. Kylo Ren was between the ages of 26 and 28 when he turned to the dark side, meaning Leia and Han would have put Rey in hiding on Jakku when she was between 16 and 18 years old, not between 4 and 6 years old as we see in “The Force Awakens”. Beyond that, there was no reason for Han and Leia to hide their young daughter if everything was okay with the universe, and their son wasn’t evil.

There you have it: Your theory sucks.

Other theories include Rey being related to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Emperor Palpatine, Qui-Gon Jinn, or even that she doesn’t have parents at all but is a physical embodiment of the force. I think that we might find out where Rey’s family ties are, but maybe not in as much detail as we’d like to.

In the full Last Jedi trailer, we see Snoke torturing Rey and telling her to “fulfill her destiny”. This leads me to believe that Rey’s ties to the force are either darker than we initially may have thought or that Snoke may have lied to her to get her to go to the dark side.

Either way, that would make for some very interesting (and sorely needed) character developments.

I think (and hope... and pray) that we will see Rey grow and develop as a character in this movie. Frankly, she served as a Mary Sue in the last movie, and had no real character development. At the beginning of the movie, she went from a good and capable scavenger with a giant staff and hopes for a better life to a good and capable scavenger with a lightsaber who hopes for a better life. She has no real flaws, nor is there anything she’s bad at. She can fly the Falcon, she can fight with a lightsaber, and she can speak both droid and wookie. She starts the series as a hero who is good at everything.

My hope for this movie is that Rey has a struggle.

The easiest way would be for her to struggle in learning the way of the force from Luke, but the more interesting character development where she will be drawn to the dark side has already been foreshadowed in trailers and other promotional material. This would make for an interesting twist, but would also allow us to become more interested in Rey as a character, instead of mostly being worried about her parentage.

The thing with Kylo Ren.

The easiest, and frankly most likely direction with Kylo Ren's character for the rest of the trilogy is that he's going to get his redemption arc. This would allow him to go full circle with his grandfather’s legacy, and turn back to the light after seeing the dark side of the force hurt those he loves. This has even been hinted at in the trailer with the shot of Kylo (presumably) sitting hesitantly as he prepares to fire on the starship that his mother, General Leia Organa, is in. This shows that he’s not entirely dedicated to the dark side and that he still loves his family.

We could also make him more human.

I also hope that with the struggle that Kylo (or Ben??) will face in the movie, we’ll also be able to see him regret killing his father, and that we will potentially see his confusion stemming from that regret. We'll probably see Kylo Ren cry, along with throwing plenty of helmets and temper tantrums (solidifying his edgy teenager aesthetic, even though he's almost 30).

As for Leia, I really don’t know what could happen.

With unfortunate loss of the great Carrie Fisher, something will have to happen to Leia. However, I don’t know what that could be. It was foreshadowed in the trailer that Kylo Ren would kill his mother, but I don’t really think that will happen due to his growing loss of faith in the dark side, the regret of killing his father, and the fact that it would be overkill (no pun intended) for Kylo kill both of his parents.

Frankly, I really hope that they don’t kill Leia on-screen. Finding a cheap, last minute way to kill Leia wouldn’t be fair to her character or to Carrie at all. On the other hand, I also feel that having her die of sickness (or God forbid, a broken heart) off-screen wouldn't be fair either. The tragic death of Carrie Fisher has put the filmmakers in a difficult position, and I'm very interested to see how they will handle it.

Luke Skywalker: The Last Jedi.

Luke is one of the most powerful Jedi in the Star Wars Universe, and he is the last jedi to be formally trained as such. We see in the trailers that he will be reluctant to teach Rey, and I think that they should let Luke be jaded and badass with a rough past.

However.

I feel like he will be a bit discombobulated- like Yoda was in Episode V-due to the destruction of his Jedi Temple, the turning of his nephew Ben Solo, and Luke’s students that were killed by Ben Solo. I also think we’re going to learn more about that, along with some general flashbacks to Luke training a young Ben Solo. This backstory will serve to explain what Luke has been doing, the downfall of Ben Solo, and the reasoning behind why Luke ran away.

I think it would be really cool for us to see Luke do some wicked crazy Jedi thing, and I think that we will. In fact, my favorite prediction is that Luke could use the force to raise the ship he used to fly to Ahch-To out of a body of water (like Yoda did in “Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back”).

I hope that along with Luke, we see the force ghosts of our favorite characters: Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Anikan Skywalker.

Out of all of these, I could do without Obi-Wan (being that Sir Alec Guinness is no longer with us, and will not be able to reprise the role as an elderly Obi-Wan), and I'd rather not be subjected to any unnecessary CGI. Yoda would be easy to add in because he's already a CGI character. Hayden Christiensen was supposed to reprise his role as Anikan Skywalker in Episode VII as a force ghost that was constantly being torn apart by Darth Vader, but the idea was scrapped in rewrites. Christiensen hinted at a return at the 2017 Star Wars Celebration and was rumored to be on set during production.

I think that it would be really interesting to see Luke talk to the ghosts of his past mentors and father. Rey could think that Luke is crazy and talking to himself, but it could be revealed to the audience, and her at a later time, that he is communicating with spirits via the force. This scene could be really well done, and I would be excited to see it.

Meanwhile, at the Resistance.

Finn, Poe Dameron, and the new character, Rose Tico, will probably have a story arc that centers around them going on covert missions, having cool space battles, and just doing resistance things.

I’m excited to see Finn and Poe develop as characters, and I’m really interested in Rose Tico and the part she’s going to play in the movie.

In the trailers, we saw that Finn and Rose will go undercover on a First Order base, and it will end with Finn facing off against Captain Phasma (who, in my opinion, was underutilized in the first movie). The fight looks like it’s going to be overwhelmingly badass, and some really cool screen time that both characters deserve.

BB-8, C-3PO, and R2-D2 will serve as the cute kind of comic relief that they usually do. I assume that BB-9e will do the same thing in a more evil way.

What about the fuzzy Star Wars Characters?

The Porgs are going to be very cute, and they’re going to sell a lot of merchandise. I promise that I will be buying a lot of it. I already own one Porg plushie. He talks when you squeeze his belly.

The Porgs are also going to annoy the hell out of Chewbacca, who will be getting over the loss of his best friend, Han Solo. I would like to see Chewbacca be emotional and even nostalgic around Luke, and to be filled with a heartbreaking rage when around Kylo Ren. “The Force Awakens” was the most emotional that we’ve ever seen Chewbacca, and I would really like for him to continue as more of an actual character with actual feelings as opposed to just being tall and fuzzy.

All in all:

I think "Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi" will be an entertaining movie that has so many different possible story directions, and regardless of their decisions, I’m very excited to see what’s going to happen to the characters in this universe.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
