The Dorm Life: Nightmare Or Best Decision You'll Ever Make?
Freshome

Upset because your university requires that you live on campus your first year of college? Upset because you have to follow certain rules that on campus living regulates? Well, even though you may be hesitant about living in your university’s dorms, there is always a bright side to a dull situation.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I get it, deciding to go off to a university to enjoy being on your own for the first time and experience the real world. But, I must say, coming to college that mandated me to live on campus my first year was one of the greatest decisions I’ve made. Although going off and living in your own apartment or house is great too, however, you miss out on the true beauty of the whole idea of the dorm life. For instance, say you’re going off to a university that you may not know anybody at, and the idea of a potluck roommate may be mortifying, I think it is such a majestic opportunity. Or perhaps, let’s say that you go off to a university with a friend and decide to room with each other. Although you and your friend will have each other, you will also be exposed to the chance of making your own little college “family”. Come on now, what better way to make fast friends that understand you, right where you live?! Not only that, imagine the amount of movie nights, baking nights, and sleep overs that can happen and you don’t even have to drive or walk much for it.

Another brilliant reason to endure and choose living in the on campus dorms is because not only will you meet people that may have the same major as you, but you can also find other students that may be pretty clever in a class that you may struggle in. I mean, what’s greater than meeting someone within in your dorm, possible a few steps away, that can help you out with something you may not be well at. Not only do you get hall-mates, you get people that can bring out the happiness in you even when you’re struggling with your homework.

One of the biggest benefits of living in a dorm is that it is basically your “home” away from home. Even though once you graduate from high school, you’re just ready to be away from the rules and limitations that your parents enforce. However, you do miss your friends, family, and parents more than you may have expected to. The dorm life allows you to endure and explore your inner self. Living in your university’s dorms allow you to expand your horizons and befriend those that you never thought you would get along with.

Think about it, it’s your first year of college, your first year of being on your own and making your own decisions, all while knowing a very few number of people. Dorms give you the opportunity to really have the entire college experience. Think of the stories that will come out of living in a dorm, like having a fire drill at night in the cold. Although that sounds like a hassle, having your friends there with you will make it that much more of a memorable moment.

Even though living in a dorm seems "lame", there is so much that you can make out of it. There are so many memories that you can make, and friends that you will find and most likely will know for the rest of your college career. So, make the best of the dorm life. Go out and make friends with your hall mates, you won't regret it!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
