My heart aches. It aches deeply for our nation, and our world. What went wrong? How is it that all of these innocent lives can be taken so quickly and carelessly? Every morning, I wake up and turn on the news channel to constantly see a new shooting in a new place. Yet, this has become a normal occurrence - hearing of a new shooting, truly is no new news. And that's sad. It's sad to think that we can now think, "Really? Again?" Because this shouldn't be a topic that is a natural, reoccurring instance. Our world is on track to a quick downward spiral, and it's extremely frightening. America, as a nation, needs to stand united. We need to steer clear of creating a nation full of hate, and we need to build a nation full of peace and love.
This begins with the change of our nation. We need to stop the hate against blacks, whites, Asians, Hispanics, men, women, transgenders or whoever you may be. There is only one race, and that is the human race. Every other ideology of what "race" may be considered is simply a social construction between humans. We've made the difference between ourselves since day one. However, we are in present day 2016, so why is there still discrimination between people of different color?
This is absolutely ridiculous. It's ridiculous to think that my neighbor, could be discriminated against because of his socially constructed race. It's ridiculous to think that I could be discriminated against because I'm a woman. It's ridiculous to think that discrimination is still a problem in 2016. I don't care what color you may be, what sexuality you may have or what religion you may believe in - if you respect me, I will respect you. It's as simple as that. What happened to respecting thy neighbor? Hell, what happened to respect in general?
We need to stand united as a nation. So, stop with this internal violence in our country. Stop. I ran across a quote, "united we stand, divided we fall" - I couldn't agree more. If we want to protect our country and protect our neighbors, we need to stop with the discrimination. Stop with the hate. Stop with the violence. Violence is not the answer. We need to be accepting of each other, and build each other up, not tear each other down. When we learn to respect each other is when we will truly become a powerful nation.
This upcoming 2016 presidential election is possibly one of the most important and influential events in our lives. Yes, the candidates both have their weaknesses. Yet, they are our two nominees and we need to stop complaining, get educated and vote. Pick the lesser of two evils, and pray for our country. Pray for a better tomorrow, and pray for peace. We need to become united, and that begins with learning to respect thy neighbor. If we can come together as a nation, we can become powerful, but if we continue to divide ourselves, we will crumble.
