It's time to start talking.

Potty-Mouthed Princesses Drop F-Bombs For Feminism

Did you know on average in the U.S. women make 84 cents for every dollar men make? Did you know domestic violence, 1 in every 4 women, is more common than breast cancer, 1 in every 8 women? Did you know that less than 25% of countries in the world have had a woman in charge? As the next generation is getting older it’s time to change the way we teach boys and girls about equality. Why do we teach our children how great it is that women got the right to vote, but not about how bad it is that women have lower starting salaries than men? The more we educate the next generation about feminism the more likely it is that one of them will grow up to change all of the inequalities women face.

Feminism is not a dirty word. It is not a word that should be avoided in conversation. In fact, it’s a word we need to be using more. It’s time to start talking about how messed up it is that just because of a difference in anatomy women are treated differently than men. There seems to be a looming stereotype that men can do things better than women can; that men are smarter than women, even. Well did you know the two people with the highest recorded IQs are women? This is not to say that women are better than men. Rather, it’s to say that women are just as good as men.

Feminism should not, and does not, mean pitting women and men against each other. Why does it have to be a competition? Women should not constantly have to wonder if what they’re doing is good enough in comparison to the standards set by men. “Potty Mouthed Princesses Drop F Bombs For Feminism” is such an important video that needs to go more viral than it already has. It teaches women and girls alike that the inequalities women face are not okay. It teaches men and boys that treating women any differently than they would treat another man is sexism. Instead of teaching young girls to stay quiet about feminism we need to be teaching them to say, “fuck that sexist shit” (“Potty Mouthed Princesses Drop F Bombs For Feminism”).

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
