If you're like me, your social media accounts aren't exactly the pinnacle of your being. You look at various Instagram and Twitter pages with envy. You think to yourself, "Why can't my Instagram look like that?" You secretly (but also not-so-secretly) desire to have Tumblr-worthy posts. A sick part of you wants to be like everyone else, receiving hundreds of likes and favorites. There's a whole thought process that goes along with posting on social media.
1. You've finally taken a worthy photo.
Yes! It has happened! The stars have aligned! You've joined your fellow millennials in the world of picture taking. It's absolutely artsy and Tumblr-worthy, and now it's time to share it on social media!
2. Time to edit the crap out of it.
You follow up by adding a sh*t ton of filters and accents to the picture. This gives your photo an extra artsy flare. Basically, you make your photo look less and less like your picture. Yeah, that's the goal.
3. What about the caption?
Oh no! The most intimidating step! Breathe, just breathe. Are you gonna go super cool and just add an emoji? Or will you say something super witty? How about humor? People like funny... However, I always say, "When in doubt, emoji it out!" (I actually never say that.)
4. Finally, the post.
And now you press "Publish." Yes! You've done it. You sit down, just waiting to rack up the likes. You watch them roll in ever so slowly. Three hours pass and you've only received 10 likes. Out of 200 followers only 10 decided to support your efforts. How dare they? They have one job.
In the end, you delete your post for lack of popularity. Because likes are all that matter, right? You hate valuing the photo based on the number of likes it gets, but that's exactly what you do. Why? Well, because you grew up in the digital age.
