You know the phase that people experience after a concert where they are euphoric, reminiscent, weirdly deep, reflective, and somehow it seems like they are just in their own little worlds trying to realize the fact that they had just experienced a really significant and legendary moment in their lives? This phase can and is usually referred to as the post-concert depression. However, I have been thinking that it is sort of unfair how people limit this "depression" to just concerts. In my opinion this phase also applies to other great and monumental events in our lives.
In life, I think it is extremely important to experience as much as possible before our time is up. Every once in a while there are things that we do that we know is one of those special moments. Moments when thoughts like the fact that life is amazing hits you really hard and the you that is living life needs to recognize the extraordinary happening. Moments that makes it seem like all your problems are light-years away. Moments that pictures can never do justice to because it's the vibes and the little actions that makes it so special. Moments that you want to last forever or happen all the time but know that it can't be like that because then those moments would become ordinary.
These moments are usually responded to in a very specific way and through a number of stages:
Step 1: Euphoria
The stage of euphoria can also be known as the "hype." It's the moments immediately following the event when you are just so happy and you feel like you can stay up for forever. It is when you just want to roll all the car windows down, drive unbelievably fast, and sing songs at the top of your lungs.
Step 2: Reminiscing
Reminiscing is the stage when you have had the possibility to take a breath and rest after. When you just can't stop thinking about the events that had just transpired, playing the memories over and over again in your head on a loop, and constantly discovering special moments that happened that you didn't think of at first.
Step 3: Realization
This is the moment you realize that the way you view the world all of a sudden has changed because your mind is constantly going back to the memories. This is also when the sadness starts to settle in because you start realizing that it is in the past and any attempt to recreate the feeling will not be the same.
Step 4: Reality
These are the days following the event where you have to go back to your daily routines with that nagging thought in the back of your mind that tells you that nothing in your life will ever amount to the way you felt in that special moment. So you go through life wondering what the point is because you have just experienced the epitome to your life experiences and nothing will amount to the feeling that you felt that night.
Step 5: Acceptance and Moving On
Slowly you will start accepting the fact that you did experience something great but there will be other moments in your life where you will be experiencing other great things. Of course not one feeling or moment will ever be the same but you will experience other special moments and that's just life. You Live. You Learn. You Feel.
If we are lucky enough, we will get the opportunity to experience those special moments that you just know is a once in a lifetime experience. But I realized what makes the moments special is not where you are or what event is happening, it is the people you are experiencing it with. Sharing these moments with the people you love is what makes life special and memorable.
