If you type the phrase "how to survive" into the Google search bar, the second top result is "how to survive a Trump presidency," right after the less realistic--but maybe equally terrifying--zombie species.
No matter for whom you voted this past month, I think it's safe to say that a fair majority of us are uncertain what the future holds. Sure, we can never truly know what'll happen in life until it actually does, but our new president-elect is probably the least predictable person this country has ever elected into office.
So what do we do now? Does the half that voted for Hillary flee to Canada? Do the Trump voters make America great again by working with only each other? Before we make a decision, let's weigh our options.
By now, we've all pretty much heard about Canada's Immigration site crashing the night of the election, due to panicked U.S. citizens when Donald Trump started leading in electoral votes. Both sides of this election believed that they were voting for change. They believed that they were creating a movement, a beginning of a new era. So, no, I don't agree that in the face of challenge, Hillary supporters should find themselves on the other side of the border, just as I don't agree that Trump supporters should try to advance this country alone. As citizens of this country, we should all be working together to bring about the changes we can agree upon. Only together, can we make this country great (again).
Over the past couple of days post-election, the media has been in a frenzy--questioning pollsters, covering protests, pulling "experts" and feeding answers to the public. Talk shows, both day and night, are garnering even more views upon seeing how our favorite celebs are reacting to the election results, leaving floodgates of continuing animosity between the lefts and the rights. Comments on YouTube and news sites are still just as spiteful as before. Before the election, I could see the point of the propaganda. Undecided voters would read comments from both sides and try to find with whom they agree with just a smidgen more before casting their ballots. But now that the election is over, what's the point?Whereas these opinions may have impacted results before November 8th, now it's just petty. It's time to let go of the hate and start rebuilding this country from whatever point you personally see as the beginning.
We all want to be heard. We all want to live peacefully. We all want a better future, and that begins with the present.
