The world is up in arms about the coming president and the changes he will bring to America, and the rest of the world, the fate of our country is not so secure as it was before–and it was already in a pretty rocky place.
On Friday, November 18, the president of Portland State University Wim Wiewel sent out an email about the commitment to the Portland State community, and how the new changes to the government whatever they may be, the students here will be protected. Regardless of immigration status, national origin, or religion. The campus and people around it are dedicated to principles of equity, diversity, and safety.
Concerns from students and faculty have flooded the doors of our gorgeous campus, talking about what will happen once immigration laws change, but the president assures us all that PSU is a sanctuary campus which means the Campus Public Safety Office will not enforce federal immigration laws as is required by state law, PSU will not facilitate or consent to immigration enforcement activities (unless legally compelled to), and it will not share confidential student information unless required to by a court order.
The president continues to say he wants everyone to be welcomed, safe, and able to pursue higher education as complete members of the Portland State University family. Thank you to President Wim Wiewel for keeping our students safe, it's good to know we have the strength to stand up to the oncoming changes in our society. Please support your own local college and help make a difference in higher education and the ones who dream of achieving it.
