That title caught you, huh? You're probably racking your brain trying to figure out what on Earth could puppies have to do with pornography. The problem with the modern view of women is extremely similar to the problem of the overwhelming pet population. Still lost? Allow me to elaborate.
In the United States, there is an overwhelming growth in the pet population, causing unwanted dogs and cats to roam the streets, or to be put in shelters where they may spend the rest of their lives in a box the size of a bathroom stall. Why does this happen? Because an innocent child wanted a puppy for Christmas.
When a child of any age wants a pet, you can bet it's based on the images that are presented to them. They see a cute picture of a puppy licking somebody's face, or a kitten used in a carpet advertisement, and want a furred companion of their own. Some children are lucky enough to receive a fluffy Fido under the Christmas tree, to quickly realize their disillusion. They discover the creature they have now is not the toy they saw as advertised. When in hand, a puppy is a living, breathing being, who eats, slobbers, pees, sheds, and barks.
In modern society, men who view porn often see women as these children view their puppies. They are presented with women who are covered in makeup, photoshopped to perfection, and skilled in unreasonable "arts," only to realize all too late that these images are far from reality. These men are caused, then, to compare every woman to this set standard of perfection, in a hairless, willing-to-please, perfect-skinned body that they often fail to realize they will never meet. This not only causes dissatisfaction in their relationships, but causes women, as a whole, to feel they can never make their body meet the "perfect," truly impossible standard set in these male minds.
If our society continues to normalize the regular use of pornography and of sex appeal in advertising, this standard will continue to grow, further displeasing both men and women in their romantic relationships. What most people don't realize is that the same dissatisfaction in real women that is caused by pornography use also causes an increase in the global human trafficking industry. As the use of porn increases globally so does the number of women (and men) pulled into sexual slavery. Additionally, men who view porn are significantly more likely to visit prostitutes in hopes of recreating what they've seen on screen. Eighty percent of prostitutes say that customers have come to them with images, hoping to recreate something they've seen online. This leaves these women trapped in cages, theoretically or close to literally, just like the dogs that grow from the abandoned puppies.
In short, the problem needs to stop. Once the public becomes educated about the facts of pornography, the problem can be reduced, and, with it, global human trafficking, and the objectification of women in modern society.
