It's 2018 — and we're at a time where political issues are more relevant than ever.
From gun control to sexual harassment in the workplace, people are constantly posting statuses and tweeting their opinions on social issues that our society is facing today.
"Like if you agree."
"Retweet if you think this is terrible."
"Share if you believe this is wrong."
"Praying for those affected by this!"
But, what are we actually doing to create social change besides updating our social media?
Expressing our views on these topics is important, but actually doing something about it is even more important — especially in today's political climate.
I'm tired of seeing people complain about something that they — or someone else they know — is affected by without taking any initiative to change it.
I'm guilty of this, too. I don't think I'm doing enough, and that's not okay.
If something bothers you so much that you feel compelled to express it to everyone on your social media, then you need to go out and help make that change yourself.
Sitting on your computer arguing with strangers is not going to make them change their mind. And bashing those who don't have the same views with you on Instagram isn't going to do much either.
We have to work to make actual change in our society.
We have to go a million steps further than what we're already doing in order to make our world a better place.
We need to do more than just pray or keep victims of apparent social issues in our thoughts.
We need to do more than just post a status about how we think something is terribly wrong.
Sign a petition. Participate in a protest. Get involved. Take action.
A tweet and a hashtag is not going to end the problems that are affecting our society. And a "like" and a "share" on Facebook is not going to do much to truly make things better.
We have to push further than that. We are better than that — and stronger than that, too.
We are capable of creating a positive impact that goes beyond Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. It's our time to make a difference. And that time is now.
