Earlier today I received a notification from a news source on my cell phone. It was once again about a political candidate being shut down by protestors while trying to deliver a message about his/her views for the presidential seat. I understand that people will not always agree with some political views. George Washington was a humble, dedicated leader for this country, but not everyone agreed with his choices. Prior to 1787, we had federalist and anti-federalist who battled with their words on ways to have an effective government.
Today we have expanded the views of our founding fathers and created a two party system known as Republicans and Democrats. Even within these parties we have liberals and conservatives. Politically speaking, there are many ways to define your self. Of course people will identify in a certain way. The human race needs to label themselves. It's required of us. Whether we are talking politics or anything else.
This is where everything seems to start going wrong. Apparently if I label myself one way, I am wrong according to someone with a different label. My label, my beliefs, define issues and have their solutions. Your label, your beliefs, define issues and have their solutions. Many times these issues and solutions are different. They are different because your party had different view points and ways to run a government. Some things I say you might even agree with but because of who I associate myself with politically my comment is irrelevant.
This is a matter that I think we need to address on a wide scale. Take a minute to put the issue in another light that isn't politics. Lets go with building a house for instance. A lot goes into building a house. A lot of agencies, companies, town ordinances, all have a play. Money aside, you want to pick the right General Contractor who has the best plan to build your house. Would you completely ignore a potentially really good General Contractor because he identifies with A frame houses instead of Condos? It sounds ridiculous doesn't it? I think that most sane people would allow the man to at least pitch his idea and weigh the pros and cons.
So, why aren't we doing this with politics any more? It seems that we support a name more than an idea. When is the last time you read the written plan of action and ideals by the opposing party? Personally, I think both sound great. I don't think anyone has bad ideas for this country, and all are for the greater good. The real question I ask is which ones seem more approachable and successful for the long term run of this country? Because when I look at a presidential candidate, I see the future of America. To me, that is what matters most.
I hope that everyone who reads this really can agree and see the light here. I know that a lot of people out there do have a similar mindset as I do. But time and time again I get attacked for having my beliefs. Every time I ask if they have even checked out so-and-so's view points and plans for such issues, they give me the generic answer that they have learned through social media. I hope next time you use your education gifted to you from this country to read a little more than 140 characters in a tweet.
