School is in full swing, which means another year of people complaining about the pointless classes they have to take in order to graduate. I’m here to tell you that those pointless classes aren’t so pointless after all.
Those classes you can’t stand will actually help you in the long run. It probably sounds weird, but that acting class in the morning that you dread so much will stay with you for the rest of your life and help you in more ways than one. Classes may seem stupid and a waste of time, but only taking classes in your major won’t help you become a well-rounded person.Trust me, I had to take History of 1865 and it was the worst class I ever took, or so I thought. Later on, I realized that when certain conversations came up about history, I actually knew the answers and I felt really good being able to inform people. Maybe these classes won’t help you in your profession, but they will definitely help with personal situations.
Many people I know have a job because of a class that wasn’t in their major that they actually liked. For example, my roommate was in Pharmacy our freshman year of college and when she signed up for an environmental class she realized that is what she wanted to do in college and eventually for her profession. That’s just one experience, but I know several people this has happened to.
I also changed my major from law and social thought to communications because I took a class in the department and loved it. It was a very fun class and I loved everyone in it. All of the people in the class even encouraged me to change my major at the end of the year and I did.The option to go to law school is still there, but now, when I graduate, I will have an undergraduate degree in communications instead of just graduating the department of law and social thought.
