Poetry On Odyssey: The Ugly Side Of The World

We live in a scary place with death around every single corner...

Poetry On Odyssey: The Ugly Side Of The World

At a young age, we are taught about the world we live in, but our parents sugar coat it to an extent that we can feel safe, sheltered, and oblivious. It isn't until we are much older that we begin to see the true horrors that surround us. The world is full of surprises, you never know what to expect, but one thing is for sure, we beat death each day.

In the blink of an eye, anything can happen,

Something so awful you couldn't imagine,

He could decide to end it, the love of your life,

And it can happen in the blink of an eye,

Someone could grab you in the dark of the night,

And it can happen in the blink of an eye,

My children could be abducted, doesn't matter if they're mine,

And it can happen in the blink of an eye,

I could be taken too, tied up, no one to hear my cries,

And it can happen in the blink of an eye,

A drunk driver could kill my family, a bitter goodbye,

And it could happen in the blink of an eye,

I could be raped, by someone I know or a random guy,

And it could happen in the blink of an eye,

I could disappear, no one would know where or why,

And it could happen in the blink of an eye,

And the scariest, most inevitable fate of all, I could die,

And it could happen in the blink of an eye.

I remember always wanting to play basketball like my dad, and that's just what I did.

In America, we tend to stick up our noses at certain things that aren't the norm. For example, people who are overweight, or the politically correct term “obese." Men and women who are overweight get so much backlash because they are not skinny or "in shape," especially, African-American women, who are typically known for having wider hips and thicker thighs. Robert Darryl, an African-American filmmaker, explains the overall intention of the body mass index in his follow-up sequel, “America the Beautiful 2: The Thin Commandments."

Pop Culture Needs More Plus Size Protagonists

When almost 70% of American women are a size 14 or bigger, movies like Dumplin' are ridiculously important, while movies like I Feel Pretty just feel ridiculous.
