Spoken Word Video :
Endless questions fill my head.
“Why are you this way?”
Sometimes I feel my voice breaking.
As I struggle to explain
My voice, silent and numb..
I just want to belong for once..
The world is so cold and cruel
I remember those taunts in whispers
Chills running down my back
“Disabled, “handicapped”, “physically challenged”
All these labels seem meaningless
They don’t define ME
The lingering sadness still persists
I prayed, and eventually the Lord whispered in my heart:
“You are worth more than precious jewels”
God has given me treasures of friendship,
Moving me past the trials
But towards him through people of the same faith.
The eternal bond held me,
And these occurrences are meant to be
The Lord speaks to me though song
My love for Bach’s Prelude in C major
Surpasses my depressed days as my hands dance on the piano
My hardships, the unfolding of strength,
Falls and bumps reveal something more,
But if I persist,
And resist these hurts,
I do not embody perseverance
In fact, I am Perseverance
I trust- and love and belong
In this world of compassion and justice
But we all have shortcomings don’t we?
The best we could be
Is determined by-
Not a disabled body but a discerning heart.
Not fear, but courage
Not weakness but strength,
Not ignorance but empathy
Not giving up but surpassing obstacles
Life- a journey of trials,
Eventually turns into a gift of
Perseverance
