The concept of poetry seems old and overhauled but this couldn't be further from the truth. There are modern poets, who don't necessarily dwell on about the tragedy of life in never-ending seeming paragraphs, but rather make their poets short and sweet. They have adapted to today's society and realized that in order for anyone to read their work it needs to be accessible. This is why poetry is not dead and we should read it much more often.
Here are some incredibly powerful poems written in the last couple of years.
" i want to apologize to all the women
i have called pretty.
before i've called them intelligent or brave.
i am sorry i made it sound as though
something as simple as what you're born with
is the most you have to be proud of
when your spirit has crushed mountains
from now on i will say things like, you are resilient
or, you are extraordinary.
not because i don't think you're pretty.
but because you are so much more than that"

"There is growth in pain
you just need to find the lesson
and learn it"
-Samantha King Holmes
"She has been feeling it for awhile- the sense of awakening.
There is a gentle rage simmering inside her, and it is getting
stronger by the day. She will hold it close to her- she will
nurture it and let it grow. She won't let anyone take it away
from her. It is her rocket fuel and finally, she is going places.
She can feel it down to her very core - this is her time. She
will not only climb mountains - she will move them too."
- Lang Leav
"let it go
let it leave
let it happen
nothing
in this world
was promised or
belonged to you
anyway
all you own is yourself"
- rupi kaur
"i don't know if anyone has ever told you this but there
is a magic living beneath your skin, sitting on the
surface of your bones. there's something genuinely
unique living within you and it flows through your
veins like waves in the ocean. you are mighty in
many ways, a survivor, a warrior, a light during
darkness, a shelter during the storm and i know there
are times when you don't feel like it. i know there are
times when you forget about who you truly are. so,
let this be a reminder of the power and strength you were
born with. let this be a reminder of your ability
to get through all the struggles and obstacles that
have once stood in your way
-r.h. Sin
"It is your duty to be kind to others. But it is
your birthright not to apologise your existence
away for anyone else's comfort"
-Nikita Gill
"Stop waiting for it to make
sense.
Stop using that as an excuse
to leave the door open. It's not
closure that you're seeking,
it's the hope that despite
what's gone wrong that
everything can go back to
normal."
-Samantha King
"i do not want to have you
to fill the empty parts of me
i want to be full on my own
i want to be so complete
i could light a whole city
and then
i want to have you
cause the two of
us combined
could set it
on fire"
-rupi kaur
" I will celebrate this life of mine, with or without
you. The moon does not need the sun to tell her
she is already whole.
-Lang Leav
"When life shows you a cliff
over a sea of pain, you
have two choices: you
could fall into the water
and drown in your misery.
Or you could finally learn to
fly."
-Nikita Gill
