Poetry From My Younger Self

Sometimes it's good to look at the past.

This is a collection of poetry I wrote back in high school. I realized just how far I have come in my journey to become healthy, and I think it's time to just share this piece of my life.

Please note that I am okay now, but I just think it's always good to revisit the past, sometimes to see the progress you have made in the present and the hope towards the future.

The Man In The High Seat

You look down upon me,

with a grin that holds back the seething hatred.

You say you care, that you love me,

but we both know that that is a farse and a web of lies.

I am nothing more than a pawn in this game,

I am nothing more than a way for to look towards the future.

But I will never be nothing more,

than a spec upon the earth while you sit up tall,

so far up in your own sky.

Life Revisited

The tables have turned, oh boy, the tables have turned.

For years I was nothing more than the butt of your jokes,

a piteous endeavor for you pretend to love.

Now you sit there, stagnant in a life that seems recursive,

and I just can't help but smile.

I was once like how you are now, saddened by the way your comfort in ignorance crumbles around you.

But unlike you, I rose up against those issues,

and I found to make my own life better than it is now.

Guess that's the difference between you and me, and what is meant to become of who we are.

This Mountain

Everyone thinks that it is just in your mind,

that you can just snap out of it by a single thought.

In reality, it is the hardest thing to overcome,

stress of everyday life becomes just too much to bear.

Yes, oh yes, death is a welcomed gesture in my eyes,

I’m sick of this mountain reaching far above the clouds,

and the journey I’ve been on to overcome it.

Things aren’t looking up, though,

I can tell you that.

The Fallen

Through suffering and pain, you made your mark on this world,

you toiled through every hardship that existed.

But, I ask you, what was your reward?

Spending years working, for just a few years of happiness,

or is it the pain knowing that you stepped over others to get where you are today?

The ones who supported you, who loved you through all the wrongs.

Remember your family, who never let you become,

One of the fallen.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
