Two Poems On Change

In Time

What will these words be

After things as they are have gone?

When the glass is broken

The metal rusted

The bricks and cement crumbling

What will lines of text occupy?

Perhaps they will be the wind

Echoes of lost things whispered

Through holes and between cracks

In places that people forgot

And that time remembered

Or maybe they will be the water

Dripped sparingly from priceless bottles

To wet the mind's lips

With images of what once was

That sleep might bring dreams

Of better realities and even better pasts

But, with any luck, they will be green things

Tiny, fragile signs of hope

Growing in the midst of what comes

After things fall apart

Hopefully, words such as these

Will be the kindling

That keeps the fires burning

Visitor

Little creature

Of spiderweb skin

And moonlight eyes

I remember you

Funny I should meet you here

Back on this roof

Where once we gazed at invisible stars

Our legs dangling off the edge

In the open air

Back then, we were closer

United in thought

Bonded in imagination

You were strong, then

You would throw me into the sky

To try to catch hold of its silver sickle

And it would seem like ages

Before I felt the coarse ground again

I see that you are no longer dressed

In the silken garments of ideality

But rather in the simple linen robe

Of those that have been explained

It suits you well, as the silk did before

And you seem none too perturbed

By the change

But I must wonder why

You still linger here

It is clear, as I look at you

That you could well be blown away

By the wind of the words

That we used to trade like marbles

It is not that I want you gone

As well you know

Though our acquaintanceship

Had its joys and pains like any other

I would never truly wish

For its nonexistence

Simply put

It seems that our paths are diverging

This roof no longer seems your place

Just as the gray fields

That you used to walk me through

No longer seem mine

So, beautiful, fragile creature

Lift those hollow quartz bones of yours

Shake the stardust from your hair

And go find another soul to dream with

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
