Poems Inspired By Long Distance Love

These are two poems that I wrote the first during my first semester of university and the second during the 3rd week of my second about being constantly 2-3 hours away from my boyfriend--now fiancé. The former describes the nonexistent boundaries of love no matter the distance inspired by a time when I reminded my love of that very fact, and the latter was inspired just last night by the heat from my phone pressed to my cheek or my chest every night talking to him while falling asleep.

"No Walls"
True love defies distances, breaks through barriers.
It challenges convictions, fights obstacles with a sharp sword.
All it needs is itself. Pure, honest. That's love. There's she and there's he. Fingertips, blood vessels, tendons, even heartstrings reach.
Reach, reach, and are connected even through a wall.

A structure that would be impenetrable to any other force.
Their emotions are clear like a tranquil pond, undisturbed.
Pure, honest. Two souls intertwined through lifetimes, universes, walls without doors. "I hope you know that I need you. I need you to remember that I crave you. Solely, only you. With everything that I am" she would declare as she looked him in the eyes straight through that transparent opaque wall. She reached her hands out and laid them on the clear cement surface. Fingers spread, palms against the cold surface.

A silent tear fell down his face as her eyes became wet, but didn't shed. He looked down and traced his finger along hers, touching the cold stone skin. "I wish for you to understand that you are all that I am"--"My body is your flesh; my heart is in your hands and beats inside of your chest! My soul is yours and you are mine" she would reply without falter. Zero hesitation. There are no walls.

"I want my voice to reach you..." he uttered softly. Her face would move closer to his, examining the irises of his eyes.
He started to smile and looked up at her. Into her eyes, those swirling patterns of amber and iridescent blues... "If I were to see your face with every glance it would be better to me than to eat or drink..." he would state softly. Their eyes never losing contact. There are no walls.

"I can only endlessly agree; I hope that that's enough!" she would reply, the tone in her voice picking up. Fingers intertwined. Eyes locked. Hearts reaching out, farther and farther until one attaches to the other and never let's go. There are no walls. That is love. Pure, honest. True.

"You're Cold"
You're cold.
But sometimes you're warm, hot even.
To the point of joyful pain.
I long for that feeling...
When I hear your voice and see your face.
When I kiss you it's cold--sometimes warm-- when I bring my lips to yours.

I keep you with me always.
I promise I won't let you die --I try not to let you die--.
Sometimes I'm away and sometimes it's difficult to communicate without my voice.

But it's all worth it because sometimes you're tangible...!
And touching your skin is just like myself.

We fall asleep together.
You live close to my mind, my ears, and my heart.
I will never let you go or turn you away from my countenance even though you can be painfully warm--and sometimes cold.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
