He, He was a wisp of smoke, cascading silently along
She, she was a ray of sun, singing her own little song
when they met, two stars collided
It felt like not enough air was provided
His name was the crisp scent of cold
Her name was the smell of flowers, bright and bold
He, he felt like home, holding her in his embrace
she was his beacon, keeping him in the same place
“forever and always,” he said without wrong
who knew forever wasn’t that long
She, she saw galaxies swirling in his eyes
her love was something she couldn’t disguise
He, he said he loved her, but it didn’t feel right
Both of them together was like day and night
He, he was a brooding storm, frightening
she, but she saw him as warm as inviting
she tried to get him to listen to what she had to say
He, all he did was push her away
Then one day, a switch went off
his love was no longer gentle and soft
His words stung like a piercing knife
but she didn’t want to lose him in her life
She, she put up with the hurt and told herself “It’s okay.”
She tore herself down and made herself stay
It kept going, until she thought, “I’ve had enough.”
Loving someone isn’t supposed to be this rough
She, she left, and everyday, it killed her inside
waves of anguish hit her like a tide
She wanted answers, but she didn’t know
sometimes holding on hurts more than letting go
Sleep never came, too numb to cry
She sat up thinking “I want to die.”
Slowly, everyday, she built herself back up
The crushing weight of heartbreak began to let up
Once again she sang and radiated light
Her smile was no longer fake, but bright
She, she deserved better, without a doubt
they were the perfect match; maybe that’s why they burnt out.
