Poetry On Odyssey: To the Racist Faces

I have seen numerous videos of people bringing out their racism and cruelty towards the Latinx and immigrant community. Recently, I watched the video of a Caucasian women calling a man of Mexican descent a rapist and drug dealer. After watching the video from CNN, I wanted to compose a poem to express the way I felt about this social issue.

Where is your mentality?

It explains the reality,

and a perfect match with your morality.

What you hear is misleading.

You see us succeeding,

and you heart starts speeding.

It scares you to see us educated,

necessitated

and dedicated.

You want to see us degraded,

separated

and dictated.

You'll never know what it is like

Since you are so uptight

and mama never missed a wipe.

You were always spoon fed

and tucked into bed

While we bled

Worked until we were on our deathbeds.

Your president says we are drug dealers

Job stealers

and extraterrestrial creatures.

Get the facts straight.

We aren't afraid.

We are greater than great.

and this America is fake.

Keep recording us,

reporting us,

and deporting us.

It's all for nothing

since we just keep on coming.

To my all my readers, I highly suggest you watch the Esteban Guzman interview with CNN. You can view the racism Esteban and his mother experience as they were landscaping a home in California. This video comes to show what we already know. Racism did not disappear but hiding until it could be unleashed once again. In order to call this a great country, and live in peace, we as a whole need to accept everyone for who they are and where they come from. We cannot judge people by the color of their skin. We cannot heckle and harass people because they are not from our country.

You need to understand why immigrants come from this country. You will never know what they go through because you never lived it yourself. In all, I hope to those who believe in racism and act upon it, educate yourself and look at the big picture from a different perspective. To those who stand beside me, continue to spread awareness that these issues are happening. Continue to support the people that are not able to speak up, and defend themselves. This will be an ongoing battle that one day, hopefully, that we will win.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
