Listening to podcasts is something that I just recently discovered and it beats morning radio shows any day in the car on the way home for the weekend. Apple has an outlet where people can listen to podcasts (apparently Nicki Minaj's "Queen Radio" is the place to be), but I prefer to listen to Spotify Studios podcasts on my weekend commute back home.
1. Small Doses
Amanda Seales' "Small Doses" basically talks about the side effects of different everyday things, like the side effects of college, toxic masculinity, having anxiety, and many more topics. It's real and funny at the same time.
2. Dissect
"Dissect" was the first podcast that I listened to once I saw Frank Ocean's name in the description. This is a podcast that strictly dives into the deepest parts of albums like "To Pimp a Butterfly" by Kendrick Lamar and "My Beautiful Twisted Fantasy" by Kanye West. It's therapeutic in a way to listen to this series.
3. Why Won't You Date Me?
Nicole Byer is from MTV's "Girl Code" and is a funny girl in her own right. She talks about being smart and funny, but wonders why she's still single. This podcast does contain mature content, so make sure your little siblings aren't around.
4. The Science of Happiness
Co-produced by PRI and Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center and hosted by professor Dacher Keltner, this takes a scientific (without all of the methods) approach to achieving pure happiness. Professor Keltner goes over research tested strategies to help people lead a happier and meaningful life. Plus, the cover image has smiley faces on it.
5. Teenager Therapy
I wish I came up with the idea of getting my give best friends and talking about things that stress us out about being a teenager and in high school. Regardless of the fact that these are high schoolers, the topics of discussion that these five best friends talk about is very true to college students.
6. Gettin' Grown
Jade and Keia are just like the rest of us and trying to figure this "adulting" thing out. Each week they talk about different topics ranging from "Petty Peeves" to "Black Women Self Care."
7. Just a Tip
This is one of the more interactive podcasts (in my opinion, at least). Megan allows for her fans to send in topics that she'll discuss on the show with a variety of guests.
8. Gals on the Go
This is a combination of everything imaginable from school to work to relationships. Bonus, they also answer questions that are sent in on a variety of topics, too!
9. Pretty Basic
I love Alisha and Remi (I've been following them for years). This is basically the open platform that fans and stans all wanted and needed; to hear about YouTube behind the scenes from the actual people and Alisha and Remi give it to us.
10. Coffee Break: French
I found that this was one of the best ways for me to learn French over the summer. It's under the "Educational" tab in the podcasts section. Season 1 is for absolute beginners (i.e people like me) and then like a class, it gets more advanced. I love a challenge and learning at the same time.
