Picture a woman with a flat stomach, toned legs, and filled arms. What type of body figure did you envision? Definitely not a plus size model that's for sure. So why do these clothing companies think that's what a plus size model should portray? That is not a plus size woman! Honestly, putting a label such as "plus size" on a beautifully full figured curvy woman I believe is unreasonable.
Lately there has been more and more talk about specific name brand clothing coming out with plus size lines showing women that they offer their sizes now also. Really? The last time I checked, a full figured woman didn't look like the model on the new Calvin Klein plus size ad for their first "plus size model". Look at the picture, is this what society thinks a plus size model actually looks like? The interpretation of the terms "curvy", "full figured", and "plus size" seriously need to be re-evaluated by the top name brand designs in this world because THAT below is not a plus size model.
I, myself am considered a regular size woman. I go shopping and can comfortably fit into a size medium or large depending on how big or small the manufacturer of the store cuts it's clothing sizes. However, two people who are very close to me mostly do not fit into regular size clothing and have to search for plus size. I go shopping with them often and I notice their struggle to find something they actually like in their size that flatters them. It is extremely difficult, and I believe it is the lack of plus size clothing these stores are carrying.
Yes, there are stores out there who are designed especially for plus size clothing, but when a young girl wants to go shopping with her friends and she can't fit into the clothes at the high-end name brand stores, she feels singled out and there's absolutely no reason she should have to feel that way. I blame retail. If you truly paid attention to what real women appear as, plus size clothing would have been stocked in every clothing store by now. It's unfair, unreasonable, insulting, and unbelievable that it's 2016 and this is still a brewing issue in society.
Calvin Klein, you should be the one to blame for displaying a regular-sized woman as "plus size". A plus sized woman does not have a sculpted stomach. I'm a regular sized woman and let me be the first to say that yes, my stomach is fairly flat, however it is not nearly as sculpted as this model's. If you're going to advertise a plus size campaign you need to take another look at the true meaning of "plus size".
