Because everyone likes a good rant, right?
This is just another heated letter, about the struggles of working in a restaurant.
I'm sure most of us have read article after article about waitressing, about how people can be sh*tty and not tip at all or tip very little on a big bill while giving excellent service. I'm sure most of us have worked in some type of food industry, from an actual restaurant, to even the grocery store. But, have we mentioned how rude it is to come in ten minutes before closing, and order food?
*This can also go for retail, like clothing stores or the grocery store.*
Dear customers/common folk who are trying to come in five minutes before close and order food,
Listen, I know we are lucky to have a job that pays us, that we know we are getting some type of income from. But with jobs come headaches and rude people.
It was fifteen minutes before close, and a party of six walks in the door, waiting to be seated and wanting to eat meals that take time to cook.
First off, if I walked into a place and the associate told me (if I didn't already know the hours or didn't look on the door OR LOOKED IT UP ONLINE, HELLO, GOOGLE!), and I was told we close in ten-fifteen minutes, I would look for somewhere else to eat, or get dessert, or get a drink, or grocery shop, or buy underwear (hello, VS). But, I guess certain people think that they are above everyone else, and demand to be waited on. Listen- I understand you're hungry. I understand that you probably were shooed away from the other restaurants that aren't open on Mondays, or closed already. But, please be considerate of the fact that just because it's 3:55 p.m. and we close at 4, doesn't mean the kitchen hasn't already cleaned up and prepped for the next day, the dishwasher probably left, and the other people, like me, just want to get home.
I guess I just don't understand. Even if you haven't worked in the retail/restaurant business, that's still common courtesy.
I know our food is good, and trust me, I know when you're hungry, you are just hungry. But please, think about the people who are working and serving you.
For the people who have/do work in these businesses, you know exactly what I'm talking about. For the others, please just have the common knowledge to not stay, and leave, and come back tomorrow, when we open at nine a.m. and will fix you whatever you please off the menu.
Sincerely,
A restaurant worker.
